One in a million incredible rust free 1979 Toyota Hilux regular cab 4x4 pickup barn find one family survivor with 43,275 original miles documented by clean Notarized A box title (A = original miles).SR5 edition has every option offered back in the day. Cold AC. Original uncut dash with original radio. Fully instrumented gauge cluster with tachometer. Center console dash with temp & volt gauges. Power Steering. Power brakes. Straight body. Southern Arizona truck with no rust. Original factory white steel wheels with ultra rare original aluminum hub caps.Original matching numbers 20R engine (2.2L) runs like a sewing machine. Starts every time with a pump and a click of the key. No smoke, o knocks, o leaks, o issues. For those unaware the 20R block is harder, hat is, t has has a higher nickel content than virtually any American muscle car ever built. It also has a vastly superior head design with much larger valves than the legendary 22R (2.4L) engine which is why there's a legion of aftermarket builders employing the 20R head mated to the 22R block to make normally aspirated engines up to 180 HP.Matching numbers 4 Speed transmission shifts smooth and tight. No leaks, o noises, o issues. Gear driven 2 speed Transfer case and original Aisin manual lockout hubs engage in both high and low smooth as designed. No leaks, o noises, o issues. This is a Toyota 4x4 after all.Here's the story or this rare survivor truck. I started working on Toyotas as a young amateur the year this truck was made. I started working on them professionally in 2006 when I opened a shop in Tucson, Z. Over the last 9 years I've developed a reputation for quality Toyota repair work as well as having a large collection of Toyota parts trucks that I sell stuff off of on eBay and Craig's List. Tucson's the biggest small town in the world so people know me as the guy in town that will always buy old Toyota trucks or fix them right at 1st Rock 4x4. Some I fix. Some I restore. Some I part out. That's how this barn find came to my attention.A young local man contacted me after his grandfather, he original owner, assed away. He stored it in his barn most of its life. It had been started regularly but driven only a few miles at a time to go to the nearby feed store until a couple of years ago when his grandfather's health took a turn for the worse.Upon acquiring it I immediately removed the fuel tank and radiator and sent them to Performance Radiator in Tucson to have the tank boiled and the radiator rodded out, low tested & refurbished. I replaced the internal electric fuel pump in the tank (a unique 1979 only feature) as well as the fuel filter and then replaced all the fluids in all the cases. I changed the plugs to new NGK, new wires, new cap, nbsp;rotor, lear fuel filter, ir filter and ran a compression test which proved excellent. Next I rebuilt the carburetor, dded fresh gas and she fired right up. No smoke. No rattles. No issues. Then I converted the AC fittings and freon to 134A. Upon engine load yest it was apparent that there was an issue with the carburetor, hich turned out to have a defect that rendered it unrebuildable so I bought a brand new special $550 Weber carburetor from LC Engineering from Lake Havasu, Z -- special because it was designed by Weber to be a factory replacement for the 20R engine leaving it completely emissions compliant and utilizes the original air filter housing so that you'd never know it was a Weber without close inspection. (See pictures).Next all the grease fittings & birfield joints were lubed, he brake system was drained & bled with both rear wheel cylinders as well as brake shoes being replaced with new parts.Finally I applied some spray on bedliner to the bed to protect it while I planned a complete restoration but the more I thought about restoring it the more I concluded the next owner might like that opportunity so here it remains as a nearly original 1 family rust free barn find with 43k original miles and no mechanical issues.Needless to say the truck runs & drives great. Tight & smooth with no rattles just like you'd expect from an original low miles Hilux. The undercarriage, rame and axles are just as clean, traight, riginal & rust free as the exterior and interior. If you look closely at the very last picture you'll notice that the left rear inner frame rail just above the muffler still has the original factory black paint on the frame with 36 years of patina dust on it. That's just indicative of how every square inch of this frame looks.There are really very few flaws on this 36 year old truck. Obviously the paint has patina and deterioration and needs redone. The truck has been repainted at least once in its lifetime as the original color was burnt orange but you'd never know until you crawled underneath the truck and spied the original belly pan. The seat is in great shape but appears to have been reupholstered at some point. There are a few very minor dings here & there but are tough to spot even up close, ost notably the front bumper is not perfectly straight but there is absolutely no bondo nor cancer. It's never been wrecked. Some mild surface rust is starting where paint has come off the hood & roof. The rubber windshield gasket was replaced at some point and they did a weak job, specially near the top driver side corner, lthough it doesn't leak. The rear bumper was also sprayed with bedliner. It's effective but is an aftermarket aluminum bumper apparently installed to save weight over the original factory steel bumper. The 31x10.5x15 radial tires that have a nice stance are about half tread but there is some weather checking.
