Description for Toyota DLX 4x4 ext cab pickup 1986
This is a very nice running Toyota 4x4 that I purchased a little less than a year ago to replace a Ford Ranger that nearly rusted in half. I've decided to get a slightly larger and newer truck so will sell this one. The truck is originally a California vehicle that was sold to a Montana buyer 4 years ago but basically put in storage and little used. Since coming to Maine the truck has not been used in the winter and rarely in the rain. Upon receiving the truck I performed any mechanical repairs that it needed, none of which were major. Here's my synopsis of the truck's condition and work that was done to it. It has been an occasional daily driver this year, during which we put @ 4,000 miles on it:ENGINE: Starts first try and idles perfectly at 800-850. Compression tested at running temperature--readings are 160, 158, 150 and 148 front to rear cylinders which are mid-range values. Coolant tested at running temperature and measured 192 degrees on a hand-held digital guage (temp guage in dash reads cool). The cold start valve does not work at this time but this has not impacted engine start up. It should be cleaned and tested. The oil pressure switch was replaced recently. There is an occasional drip of oil which I have not investigated fully so don't know the source. The power steering drips fluid infrequently from what I believe is a fitting--it is not from the steering box or pump that I can see. No other engine issues known. The Economy and Power settings via button on shift panel works correctly. The AC does not function and I believe only needs recharging. We don't use AC much in Maine so I didn't bother with it. Pump spins freely.
TRANSMISSION: Automatic with overdrive. Works nearly perfectly, with some shifts almost unnoticeable. The overdrive operates by button on the shifter and can be very smooth or a bit clunky depending on how much throttle is being used. I find it shifts most smoothly without letting off the throttle at all. There is absolutely no slippage in the transmission and it develops torque immediately and smoothly. There are no leaks--rear seal was replaced several months ago. I replaced the main bushing in the automatic lever and lubricated all moving parts.
DRIVE TRAIN: Front and rear differentials are quiet and tight. The right front axle was replaced in May. The Hi/Low 4-wheel drive box works perfectly. Chassis has been inspected for loose joints etc. and completely greased.
BRAKES, WHEELS, TIRES: BRakes work well, good stopping power. Probable rear brake drum out of round as truck pulses on hard braking but no effect felt in steering wheel. Hand brake works correctly. Wheels are polished alloys, tires have around 5000 miles on them.
ELECTRICAL: Everything functions except interior light which is likely the bulb and I will fix that one. Installed eTrailer wiring harness for towing.
BODY: This truck has original paint and decals except for the hood, and I don't know why it was repainted (low quality job). Paint is faded overall, but there is absolutely no rust on the truck other than minor surface rust at tailgate end of truck bed. No body panel rust, no rust around windows or trim, no rust on the underbody or frame. Remarkable what living in California will do for a vehicle! The windshield was replaced by previous owner, I believe, and they clearly had a hard time replacing the chrome trim. It is loose and clips are probably broken, hence the duct tape to keep it in place. The rest of the glass is very good to excellent. I replaced the driver side regulator and lubed the other (and therefore saw how clean the inside of the doors are). Doors, hood and all other controls work properly. Minor dents and scrapes as shown in pictures. Rear step and tow bumper is bent slightly but not dented, so easily pulled back into position.
INTERIOR: Needs help--the plastic trim has deteriorated and breaks easily as I found out replacing a bushing in the shifter, the dash is intact with no cracks but the foam (I think) has collapsed around the main defrost vent. The headliner is ripped above the driver's visor and the vinyl floor mat is torn under driver's heel. Holes for rear speakers were cut in rear cab side panels by previous owner--I have the speakers and wiring is still in place. The radio is a Kenwood replacement unit with CD player. Original speakers have good sound and volume.
TRUCK CAP: Bronco brand, does the job but the side window seals have shrunk, allowing a little water to get in if truck is left out in heavy rain.
SUMMARY: I bought this because I've had several of these tough little machines in the past, and thought this would be a good restoration project. It IS a good restoration project because most of what it needs is body and interior cosmetics. But I need something a little bigger and so will sell this one. The truck will serve reliably just as it is, or look like a million bucks if someone puts a little time into it. Ready and willing to answer any questions--I like full disclosure so I'll tell you what I know. Happy bidding. On Oct-04-16 at 13:58:49 PDT, seller added the following information:

Sorry for the double description, folks. Just wanted to edit my description to update and clarify several things.
