Description for Toyota Land Cruiser 1977
Oh, if these wheels could talk!! This 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser has a fantastic air of retro off road coolness you just won't find anywhere else. It LITERALLY logged its earliest miles in the jungles of Colombia. Close your eyes and you can easily picture this venerable vehicle ably navigating the Amazon. The SUV of its time? Not hardly. This Land Cruiser traces its origin back to the military and is no common errand-runner, having been up close and personal to surroundings most can only dream about or see in postcards. Sporting a very stock yet capable look, this is truly one unique vehicle. It's rugged, all right, but far from primitive. Its appearance remains unmodified from the time it first rolled off the line a continent away, but it's unlikely anyone could have realized just how timeless that look would prove to be some four decades later. No aftermarket lift kits to be found here and yet you'll note that the ground clearance it already has is pretty considerable. That Freeborn Red exterior exudes vitality and an overriding sense that this Land Cruiser is still up for whatever you are even now an aura of vitality underscored by a freshly restored and high-quality fiberglass top that's sporting new glass and rubber. Take a look at the front, just above the windshield and you'll see a set of vents entrusted with circulating air back to the passengers at the rear across the roofline. It's yet another reminder that this is FAR more than a conversation piece, it's a real life testimony to functional automotive engineering. Atop that fresh-looking fiberglass roof sits a luggage rack, which was a rare option when this car was purchased in its original South American homeland. True to form, when you look inside, you'll see a very fresh and functional interior, still retaining its original look and feel. There's fresh black vinyl upholstery everywhere you look, complemented by equally fresh and period appropriate rubber floor mats. Within these confines, there likely haven't been too many disapproving looks given when a passenger tracked some roadside dirt inside. It's what this vehicle is all about. Sure, you very likely will want to keep it nice and clean, but you may also smile to yourself in the knowledge that it was created to handle some getting dirty. This was originally designed to be a military vehicle, after all, and when you look aft, you'll see a pair of side facing jump seats that are accessed by a set of set of ambulance doors from the back. While the overall look remains as it did all those years ago, the aftermarket upgrades that have been made have been added with care. The aftermarket A/C system blows cold and the Pioneer stereo with iPod compatibility that resides just above the vents on the dash provides a whole world of musical capabilities impossible with the original system. Both upgrades blend seamlessly into their surroundings. Just as you'll find everywhere else, the drivetrain reflects an original lineage that's been carried forward to the present with obvious care. The 4.2 liter inline 6 2F engine resides inside a very clean and tidy compartment and it's connected to a 3-speed manual transmission that was designed for rugged durability. And, as you would expect in a ride with lineage like this, it's a 4x4 as well. A lot of attention has gone into retaining this Land Cruiser's signature reliability and safe operation for the years ahead. New wiring has been installed throughout and its power brake system was recently overhauled. To further increase road-readiness, new Tokico shocks and steering stabilizer were also added. In a nod to more modern convenience and technology, power steering originally from a Dodge truck makes dealing with everyday driving conditions a lot more effortless, as the next chapter in this Land Cruiser's storied history isn't likely to be back in the jungle. If you're on the lookout for a truly hard to find classic off-road vehicle with lineage unlike any other, that's also sporting a great look sure to draw admiring glances, this is the one for you.
