Description for Toyota 4Runner 1987
Here we have a VERY nice 1st Generation 1987 Toyota 4Runner. 22re 5 speed manual transmission 4x4. These are getting harder and harder to find. All in all this truck is one of the nicest in the country that is currently on the market.
This particular truck is an excellent example of a well-preserved specimen. NO rust at all. Nice and straight RUST FREE frame. It was a one-owner until the Spring of 2017, came out of Oregon. Clean Carfax.
It has been totally reliable, and I would not hesitate to drive it across country. I’m averaging 23 mpg!
The interior is in excellent condition. Everything works! This truck drives very nice and tight. It is unusually tight and precise in its steering and suspension. Really feels great to drive. Brakes work well. Seats and interior plastics are in unusually nice condition. The turn signal switch, wiper switch, light switches, and so on all feel nice and tight. All of the doors and windows feel and work really well. I bought this with the intention of fixing the little bugaboos, and having it repainted. It would be show-worthy without too much work.
Roof rack is negotiable
Some hard to find features:
· Cruise
· A/C (works really well)!
· Tilt steering wheel
· Power Steering
· Power Brakes
· Altimeter/Tiltometer/Inclinometer (backlight works)
· *Original* radio! Works and sounds great!
· EVERYTHING works. Rear window, all electronics, etc.
The great news:
· NO leaks
· New rear spring shackles
· New spark plugs & wires
· New air filter
· New Exhaust
· New Battery
· New Slave Cylinder
· New Master Cylinder
· New Tires and alignment (BRAND NEW Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 2 tires-*very* nice tires, not cheap rubber)
· Completely reconditioned as new oem stock wheels
· 4wd works great (manual locking hubs)
· New wiper blades
· Smitty Built sliders
· Side wing-windows and rear sliders work perfectly and seal well.
· Original center armest intact and in good shape!
I am only selling because I have THREE, and I am moving across country. I really don’t want to sell.
In this ad, I will do my best to represent the truck in a way that picks it apart. I will be focusing on the negatives so that you’ll know exactly what you are getting. Please keep in mind that this truck is 30 years old, and has imperfections consistent with it’s age.
The imperfections:
· Missing the rear headrests
· Shift boot needs replaced I have the part, just needs to be put on
· Knob for the passenger rear seat back fold-down is missing
· The carpets could use a steam cleaning.
· Rough idle upon start. From my research, most likely a vacuum leak. Once warm, idle is totally fine.
· Shifting into gear can be a bit stiff (with side to side looseness). Pretty sure it just needs a shifter lever seat bushing. Once you’re used to driving it and you get the feel for the shift gates, it shifts smooth. 30.00 in parts, less than 30 minute job.
· Only one key, and it is wonky in the doors and tailgate. It works, but you have to play with it. I was going to have new keys cut at the dealership (key code is on the passenger lock cylinder).
· Interior light does not come on when you open the driver door. Almost certain it’s the door switch (like $4.00 on eBay). Works fine outside of that.
· Fuel sending unit needs to be replaced. Once it drops down below half a tank, the gauge drops to empty. I have the new part, just needs to be installed
· Missing passenger plastic rear bumper corner. I’m sure it’s an easy find, I just haven’t had the time.
· The hood is the worst part. The paint is very faded (which is common on these), but also it is bent up. My best guess is that someone was changing the battery, and left it under the hood sitting too high and tried to close it (D’OH!). Good news everyone- I have a new hood and (used) hinges!
· The paint on the top of the truck is faded
· The tailgate has a dent
· As you can see, the paint is faded in spots and not perfect. The passenger rear quarter was repainted at some point (I do not know why). Since I was going to have the entire truck repainted, I never minded. My body guy (Mac Gibson, the best of the best in NE Indiana- does high-end show cars) says whoever did the work did a very good job, even he almost couldn’t tell work was done. He sees no structural, panel, or frame damage, and thinks it was probably just that it was keyed or something, since the quarter panel lines are all perfect and line up exactly like the other side.
I would highly encourage the buyer to come and inspect it in person before paying. I live near the airport, and can pick you up. Or you are welcome to have any shop in Fort Wayne inspect it on your behalf (at your own expense). Should you decide to have it shipped, I’m willing to help with the arrangements, but I bear no responsibilities either financially or otherwise.
