LET'S CALL THIS RESTORED 1976 FJ-40 "MOLLY'S YOTA" MOLLY'S YOTA HAS 64,958 MILES ON THE CHASSIS. JUST TODAY WE FINISHED THE FRONT END BALL KNUCKLE, TRUNION BEARING, AND WHEEL BEARINGS . WE ALSO SERVICED THE DIFFERENTIALS. THIS LITTLE CRITTER STEERS GREAT AND HAS NO MAJOR RATTLES OR SQUEAKS. WE INSTALLED BRAND NEW DUAL EXHAUST BY MAGNAFLOW ON 2 1/4" ALUMINIZED PIPE. THE SPRINGS AND BUSHINGS ARE STOCK HEIGHT AND THE FJ IS VERY EASY TO GET IN AND OUT OF. THE REAR HITCH IS MOUNTED TO THE BUMPER AND FRAME WITH A BUILT IN STEP AND FACTORY BUMPERETTES. THE DUAL EXHAUST SOUNDS GREAT FROM ALL EIGHT CYLINDERS. THE CLUTCH IS STRONG AND THE ONLY LEAK NOW IS A SLIGHT LEAK AT THE REAR OF THE OIL PAN THAT HAS A 3" CIRCLE THAT LOOKS LIKE IT SEEPED OVER A 4 WEEK TIME PERIOD. THE WIRING IS ALL REDONE WITH CORRECT RELAYS AND FUSING FOR THE LED HEADLIGHTS, DASH, HEATERS, HORN, SIGNALS, AND EXTERIOR LIGHTING. WE ALSO HAVE A HIGH OUTPUT PULLER ELECTRIC FAN THAT KEEPS THE CHEV V8 AT 180 DEGREES. THE LED LOAD LIGHTS, WARN 8274 WINCH, AND LED HEADLIGHTS ARE ALL WIRED WITH CORRECT WIRING KITS AND FUNCTION WELL. THE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL NEED NOTHING. THIS IS A VERY RELIABLE LITTLE YOTA. THE 4X4 WORKS VERY WELL AND SHIFTS IN AND OUT EASILY. WE BELIEVE ANYONE THAT CAN DRIVE A STICK SHIFT WILL ENJOY THIS YOTA.THE BODY: THE BODY HAD LITTLE DINGS N DENTS UNTIL WE SPENT A MONTH ON BODY WORK AND TWO STAGE FACTORY COLOR BLUE PAINT. IT WAS BASICALLY STRIPPED, PRIMED WITH CATALYZED PRIMER THREE HEAVY COATS, BLOCK SANDED A COUPLE TIMES, THEN A FINAL GUIDE COAT SANDING . WE THEN USED LIMCO 2:1 FACTORY BLUE BASE COAT AND THEN SPRAYED 3 GOOD COATS OF UPOL 4:1 CLEAR COAT WITH AN EXTRA COAT ON THE HOOD AND FRONT FENDERS. THE PAINT JOB HAS NOT BEEN CUT AND BUFFED. WE ALSO PAINTED THE INSIDE OF THE DOORS AND REAR DECK AREA. THERE DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY RUST ON THE YOTA EXCEPT AT THE REAR OF THE HARD TOP WHERE IT MEETS THE DRIVER SIDE BODY UNDER THE CURVED GLASS. IT'S NOT A RUST THROUGH. THERE ARE NO RUST OR BUBBLES ON THE RUNNING BOARDS OR BODY. THE FRAME IS ALSO RUST FREE. ALL IN ALL A VERY NICE BODY.THE CARGO RACK IS BY WILDERNESS AND IS A VERY NICE FIT. WALKING ON IT DOESN'T FLEX AT ALL SO IT SHOULD CARRY THE WHOLE GRISWOLD FAMILY CAMPING GEAR .
ENGINE BAY: THE CHEVY ENGINE IS STAMPED T010 ON THE BLOCK AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YEAR THAT IS. IT HAS 120 LBS COMPRESSION AND HOLDS 40 PLUS POUNDS OF OIL PRESSURE HOT. IT STARTS RIGHT UP, DOESN'T SMOKE, AND HAS AMPLE POWER FOR ANY TERRAIN. THE NEW EDELBROCK 550 CFM CARB IS SILK SMOOTH AND THE IGNITION IS HEI. THE AIR CLEANER HAS AN AIR RAID ELEMENT AND THE FUEL PUMP IS A SUMMIT ELECTRIC PUMP. THE MOTOR RUNS SO WELL THAT AFTER SITTING FOR THREE WEEKS IT TURNED OVER TWICE AND RAN SMOOTHLY. THE INTAKE IS AN ALUMINUM INTAKE AND THERE ARE NO UPPER LEAKS. THE BATTERY IS AN OPTIMA RED TOP THAT HAS NEVER LET US DOWN AND HAS THE SIDE POST FOR THE WARN 8274 WINCH HOOKUP. ALL ELECTRICAL WORKS WELL AND THERE IS A SPARE ACCESSORY SWITCH ON THE DASH FOR A CB RADIO IN THE OVERHEAD HOLDER THAT IS BRACED FROM THE WINDSHIELD FRAME TO THE ROLL BAR.
INTERIOR: THE INTERIOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE. THE REAR JUMP SEAT WAS REPLACED WITH TWO NEW 24" JUMP SEATS BUT THE ORIGINAL WILL GO WITH THE SALE. THE NEW LAP BELTS FOR THE REAR JUMP SEATS ARE NOT PICTURED BECAUSE I FORGOT TO BOLT THEM IN. I'LL DO THAT TOMORROW. WE ARE ALSO STILL WAITING FOR A SMALL ORDER OF WEATHERSTRIP FOR THE REAR DOORS THAT WILL BE INSTALLED PRIOR TO SHIPPING OUT. THE SEATS ARE WAY COMFORTABLE AND WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE FROM. THEY DO NOT APPEAR TO BE FJ-40 YOTA SEATS BUT THEY ARE EXTREMELY COMFY. THE REAR HEATER WAS REDONE AND WORKS AS DESIGNED (NOT CHEAP) AND WE ADDED TWO LAYERS OF HIGH DENSITY RUBBER FOR SOUND PROOFING IN THE REAR. THE ORIGINAL FRONT MAT IS IN GENERALLY GOOD SHAPE BUT WE PUT FLOOR MATS IN TO KEEP THE SOUND DOWN. THE RADIO IS A JVC AM-FM-CD. THE HEAT AND DEFROST KICK BUTT ON THESE FJ-40'S. THE KIDDE FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS BRAND NEW AND MOLLY'S YOTA COMES WITH A SURVIVAL SHOVEL. JACK AND LUG WRENCH FOR THE SPLINED LUG NUTS. THE 15 X 8 AMERICAN RACING WHEELS ARE 120 GRIT SANDBLASTED AND THEN CLEAR COATED WITH THREE HEAVY COATS OF THE SAME CLEAR COAT AS THE BODY. THE TIRES ARE NEAR 99% BFG ALL TERRAIN 235-75-R15 AND DO NOT RUB.
