Designed with assistance from the German studio of Wilhelm Karmann in Osnabrück, he TR6 was the penultimate effort in a long line of classic British sports cars made by Standard-Triumph. Its successor, he homely TR7/8, as never really achieved collectible status.

Thus, he TR6 was the last of the hairy-chested, ody-on-frame Roadsters, ith a brawny straight-six up front, referably to be driven with the top down.

With the average car's lifespan being about a dozen years and its attrition rate often accelerated by careless, econd-hand owners, t'd be a nice surprise to find an example of the species that, espite being over 40 years old, till shines and sparkles like a late-model.

The most likely place to unearth such a rare gem would be Southern California, ith its mild climate and large number of open-air enthusiasts.

Built in November of 1973, IN *CF15894U* left the gates of the Canley plant in Coventry, ngland and eventually made its way to Sunny, outhern California where the car leads a very charmed life.

A 1" stack of parts and service receipts (totaling $10,439.97) testifies to the extensive mechanical and cosmetic work performed not for resale but to bring this vintage sports car back to its original glory so it can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Let's check out this dream find now, nside and out!

Exterior:

After over four decades,

the body had a few small dents and cosmetic issues (no major rust) so the car was professionally refinished to perfectly match its original Sapphire Blue (color code #96).

These photos above and below show the car freshly painted just prior to being reassembled.

As you can see; the bumpers, eals, rim pieces and interior were painstakingly removed to insure an even, actory-clean finish inside and out.

The fit and finish are superb.

Most importantly, ody gaps between hoods, oors, nd fenders are of reference quality and there was absolutely NO evidence of major collision repair or any other mishap that would cause the enthusiast sleepless nights.

The windshield as well as all rubber seals, elts, rim, eather stripping and much of the brightwork were thoughtfully replaced with factory correct replacement parts.

Finally, brand-new, Robbins convertible top was fitted.

It's tight as a drum with no leaks or wind noises and the rear window has a nice zip-out feature allowing fresh air (or a surf board) to come through. Pull the two chromed levers above the windshield; unsnap the back and the top folds down in seconds.

Full Tonneau Cover is very practical; permitting you to leave the TR's top down when parking it, et protecting the interior from unfavorable weather and all-too-curious passers-by.

When you are about to go cruising by yourself, ou just unzip the driver's side. Makes for a draft-free drive, nd--if needed--the heater works much better, oo!

With the top folded down the included boot cover snaps on easily for wind in your hair enjoyment.

Remember, his is an old-school British roadster: the top is only to be closed in an absolute emergency, .e., n a hurricane or when fully submerged.

Chrome luggage rack is a very nice option for those cross country trips.

Front & rear rubber bumper ends (overriders) were deleted to match the earlier TR6 look and weight however they were kept along with all the mounting brackets and bolts for the new owner.

Winston P205/60SR15 radials are mounted to exceptionally well-preserved 6J x 15" factory steel rims with chromed lug nuts and aluminum beauty rings; wheel detail is amazing.

Speaking of detail, et us stress how straight the body is, ow sparkling the chrome, ow glossy the paint: if you wouldn't know differently, ou'd think to be looking at a 4-year old, ot a 41-year old car.

This one is that clean!

While we're down on one knee, et's take a look underneath.

More important than shiny paint is a healthy undercarriage.

Normal seepage can be seen from the rear differential but it is not dripping. Rear mounts and frame are solid with no cracks or corrosion.

Looking forward from the right wheel, nly minor surface rust can be seen on original chassis.

The above photo shows a section of the sheetmetal behind the frame rails painted black. This is the driver's side, ront footwell which is a typical area where rust develops.

In the photo above and below you can see this section was professionally replaced with factory correct sheetmetal.

This was the only repair needed.

Beyond that, verything below is 100% original and SOLID with only minor surface rust.

Engine has typical seepage but again, O DRIPS!

A close look at the fully refurbished suspension confirms: everything is clean and tight!

Check out all the new components.

We'll inspect the interior next, hall we?

The TR6's luxuriously outfitted cockpit is a world apart from the austerity of a TR3 or early TR4, eeping more in line with a Jaguar E-Type or Jensen.

The bucket seats and door panels were fully reupholstered to match the factory originalShadow Blue vinyl (trim code 27) and nicely complement the TR's rare and highly desirable color combination.

From the cut pile carpeting to the convertible top; the restoration parts in this stunning interior are factory-correct & Triumph Heritage approved.

A true British Roadster must have a wooden dashboard, nd the TR6 is no exception.

A brand new walnut fascia with complete black dash pad kit and knobs were fitted.

Pristine 3-spoke steering wheel with leather grip.

A full array of SMITHS gauges all work flawlessly with excellent silk screening of the instrument dials.

Lighted glove box, oors and trunk all open with the same key. Inside is the Triumph Handbook.

New heater, an, ent and choke control knobs and a period correct, tem mounted AM/FM Cassette unit (how modern!) guarantees pleasurable audio, ven when traveling topless at speeds well above the double nickel.

The windshield and sun visors are also brand new with crystal clear passenger mirror.

Because this stunning interior is brand new, verything looks and operates as if the car was delivered yesterday, ot 41 years ago.

Let's have a look inside the trunk.

The newly carpeted and paneled trunk is surprisingly large and very clean.

Original lug wrench shown on the left.

Matching wheel with sparetire resides in a separate compartment below a carpeted wooden partition.

A picture says more than a thousand words: this fully refinished trunk is spacious and immaculate!

Finally, et's look under the hood.

Engine & Mechanical:

The car's engine compartment is all original, actory-correct, own to the decals and markings.

Surprisingly perhaps, he wiring looks fantastic, nd with a new aluminum radiator, he car always runs cool and there are no oil leaks worth mentioning.

Recently, housands of dollars were invested into the engine, ts ancillaries, uspension, uel and braking systems to bring this TR into road ready condition.

Touring the immaculate engine bay one can observe many the new ancillaries including the alternator, igh torque starter, ater pump, uel pump, attery, aster cylinder, luminum radiator, indshield wiper motor, span>green hose kit, and the list goes on...

The 2.5-liter, /font>six cylinder power plant inhales through dual Stromberg carburetors.

It sounds crisp and runs smoothly, ike a turbine, ith superb oil pressure, old or hot.

The detailed list (above) of mechanical work ensures the new owner of a well sorted "6"and that any/all worn items were painstakingly attended to.

As a result, his TR6 is mechanically as strong as it is cosmetically.

Yes, ny Triumph can be a very tough and reliable automobile with a bit of preventative maintenance!

Drivability:

Invigorating is the word that best describes this TR6 experience.

The Roadster runs like a cheetah on the prowl. Its suspension layout is intelligently engineered and the power-to-weight ratio is very favorable, ndeed.

In any climate, he powerful 6-cylinder engine starts every time, dles, evs and pulls effortlessly through the gears without unusual noises or hesitation and accelerates strong and smooth leaving no smoke in your rear-view mirror or drips on your driveway.

Warmed up, he oil pressure ranges from about 55 lbs. at idle to a reassuring 75 lbs. at speed. Coolant temperature remains absolutely stable, ith no hint of overheating even after extended runs at high speeds or in stopped in traffic on hot summer days.

Throwing this TR through the curves, the strong engine emanates throaty, usty sounds. The fully synchronized 4-speed transmission shifts very smooth and precise. The disk brakes anchor the car securely, n a straight line, nd without any hint of fading.

Aided by newer suspension, andling and braking are simple and superb with no rattles, hakes, himmies or pulls. All in all, his Triumph is a thoroughly convincing performer and a joy to drive!

In fact, his TR's steering makes a mockery of the rubberized, ver-assisted control mechanisms that pass for most modern cars' guidance systems. It's smooth, iscreet, nd very precise and controllable. Gung-ho throttle steer is available if you're in the mood, ell-mannered road-holding if you're not. The TR's chassis inspires with its unsophisticated charm; its transparency is convincing.

Everything works on this TR, rom lights and switches to heater fan and back-up lights. Despite its age, he car definitely is ready to be driven anywhere, ven across the Country, f that's where you live.

Pound for pound, riumph's TR6 is one of the finest, ost fun post-war British sports cars. Being the last of the breed, pristine TR6 is a highly collectible Classic with fantastic appreciation potential, ne that can easily serve as a reliable daily driver.

To make things even better, he car gets 25 MPG on regular gas, s smog exempt in California and reasonably priced spares as well as extremely affordable classic car insurance are readily available.

Looking back, ou realize that, i>somewhere in time, he chapter of the true British Roadster has ended. It has ended with the introduction of engine management systems; it has ended with the worldwide popularity of power steering, ower windows, ower tops, nd power-assisted thinking, ven in Her Majesty's Kingdom. It has ended with the Triumph.

This fully refurbished Triumph TR6 however is up to any task imaginable. It could serve as a show car, "new" old car to relive the good old days, r simply as a reliable, un daily driver during ANY time of the year. At the very least, o matter where you go, ou'll see a smile on everyone's face, ncluding your own. To state it succinctly: It delivers on its promise!
