Description for Triumph Spitfire 1973
Exceptional 1973 Triumph Spitfire, professionally refinished and maintained to a high standard.
I'm selling this classic piece for a good friend of mine and whilst I'm not a Triumph aficionado myself, I am in the classic car hobby and can quickly tell this one has been very well sorted and lovingly cared for, most certainly.
She has been owned by the same individual for the past 16 years. He first purchased the Spitfire as a gift for himself on his 50th birthday. During the past 6 years she has been treated to a top caliber engine rebuild by a local professional, along with a gorgeous Metallic Black paint application. Due to the owner's health reversals, there has only been a handful of miles driven (under 1,000), since these works were organized and completed. (Unfortunately he wasn't a receipt keeper but two seconds with the '73 and it reveals the time and money spent & the engine re-builder is still in the trade here locally). This is a as is sale but still, the works have all been done.
The exterior and interior are both in overall excellent condition. As mentioned earlier, the paint has very little miles on it and the seats, carpeting, door panels and dashboard, all in first rate form. Not brand new of course, not claiming perfect, but exceptional just the same. There are a couple small chips on the windscreen (windshield for the Americans), but not in your direct line of view.
The 4 cylinder engine starts up quickly, with just a brief pull of the choke. The 4 speed manual runs through the gears easily, zero issues detected. I'm sure she drips some fluid here or there like my other English vintage pieces, but nothing that stands out beyond the norm for these guys.
All the bits seem to be spinning as they should, with the exception of the cassette player (AM/FM radio works fine) and the windshield washers (Wipers are operating perfectly). The soft top needs replacing however, due to a pair of seam tears and a 1" puncture. Given most hobbyist will only use her for top down running, most I suspect, won't go to the trouble of swapping the canvass.
The undercarriage is in strong condition, the bonnet and boot open and shut as designed, didn't notice any sag in the doors, and the 4 tires have just been fitted.
