Engine No. TS66269E Mulliner Body Tag EB65051 Production Tag 1069882
This is a restored Triumph TR3A. The restoration is older and has had some use since completed. The body on the car is very good in every regard. Panel fitment is very good. The interior is very good. The underside was restored and shows well, but no longer appears fresh from use and time since restoration. The engine is original to the car. All VIN, body, and production tags appear to be original to the car. The bright work is very good. The paint finish is very good with a few minor flaws. The car has soft top, side curtains, and tonneau cover, all in very good condition. The engine compartment is well detailed.
The car is an original left hand drive, overdrive car. The car is equipped with soft top, side curtains, and tonneau cover.
During this inspection, I used a paint meter, Elcometer 415 FNF, to test the thickness of paint and materials on the body. The measurements were photographed as taken so the location of the measurement can be seen on the car. All of measurements that are seen in the range of 4.0 mls to 25.0 mls are normal and expected on a restored car. There were some locations on the front fenders that exceeded that range. Some of the measurements exceeded the range of the paint meter and are indicated by >39.4. This is not indicative of an issue, but does highlight areas where more materials were used under the paint in prep.
The biggest issue that this car currently has is that it is an older restoration, that as the photos will show, now is in need of some freshening. The car is a good solid car, that has had issues in areas where all of these cars have had trouble. The appearance of the car is very nice, and these photos included in this report were designed to be critical of the car, however, this is a car that is a very nice car overall, finished in attractive colors, with a nice set of wire knock off wheels.
A few noted concerns:
Several locations of older work, now showing age
Windshield frame has signs of age – chrome
Signs of metal replacement performed
Work is evident in front fenders, behind wheels, common trouble spot Several pieces of hardware on underside have corroded heads Frame is solid, but has plenty of signs of use and age
Floors are very solid, however have signs of road use and age
Restoration, when performed, was not to high level standards
When inspected, the vehicle was unable to maintain idle, but has since had carbs rebuilt
