1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle - Lost but not forgotten - They are only original once !
This car has recently been revived after some years of not being on the road. Showing 74K+ on the odometer. I have no records but I think you will agree when you see the car the milage is true. Original interior down to the carpet and glovebox. Drivers side seat has tear at the top and the passener side a smaller one in the same area. The carpet is in good condition with a some blemishs and it's original. The headliner is good with minor imperfections and is original. Missing the rear deforst vents but the no longer make them so I haven't been able to find a pair. They are specific to 1971-72 Super Beetles. The car still has the factory paper cover under the seat to protect the regulators (you never see that) The doors open and close like brand new.
This car has never been wrecked all original fenders and body. Floor pans are original and you can see the black factory paint on them where the undercoating is flaking. They are amazing. One tiny pea sized hole under the battery. No body rust and only minor surface spots and small paint inperfections. This car has had one repaint some time ago and the paint shines really nice. I would rate the paint an 7.5 of 10 and only because of a few minor imperfections that could be easily repaired to be made close to perfect. It's a sand tan-ish color. It has a place on the hood where the VW emblem is that has some paint flaked off with a few bubbles. No dents ! One little ding on rear fender but you have to look for it.
The motor and tranmission are all original - Runs and drives really well. I've been driving it around town and haven't had any issues. I just put a brand new Solex 30/31 Pict carb on the car and it runs very well. Drives straight and stops well. The transmisson shifts smooth and doesn't pop out of any gears.
The following parts have all been installed in the last 3 weeks :
- Four brand new Nexen Tires
-Brand New Solex 30/31 Pict Carb - NEW not rebuilt
- New Starter, attery, uel Pump, oints, lugs Wires, ap, il,
- Complete Brake overhaul - New Cylinders, hoes, oses, rake Switchs. everything replaced except master cylinder.
- New Wiper Blades, urn Signal and Tail light Seals
- All fender wells have been undercoated
All Lights, urn Signals and Brake Lights work. Speedometer and Gas guague work as well. The horn works as well.
