Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1969

This VW is beingrelisted due to a non-paying bidder.

OVERVIEW:
This VW was last driven in 1998. The engine was rebuilt in 1995, t which time it also received new mufflers and dual pipes, ires and brakes. It was subsequently driven few miles over the next 3 years at which time the current owner purchased it from her friend in 1998.

Her intention was to restore it with the help of her father who was a vintage car collector and hobbyist. The VW was parked, he fuel system drained, nd body work started.
Other priorities of life, long with illness led to the project stalling and not being revisited. The van remained unattended and was stored outside for several years, nd today is in the condition presented here.

DRIVETRAIN:
The engine rebuild in 1995 was performed by a mechanic in Cochrane, lberta, ho formerly worked for Volkswagen in Germany. The engine was bored out to a stronger 1776 cc. at that time.
Since then it has seen 3 years of use and minimal miles. The engine was covered during storage and any openings were kept sealed. No attempt has been made to start it, ut with a large box end wrench on the crank pulley the engine turned over easily and smoothly.

The Bugpack mufflers appear good but the left pipes have holes.
The original gas heater is still present in the left side of the engine bay.

CHASSIS:
The undercarriage is original and structurally is basically solid. There are small localized rust out areas, rimarily sheet metal, hich will require repair. Most of these are visible in the pics presented.
Main structural metal such as frame rails and body mounts are solid, nd there is much original paint evident in the wheel wells.
Much of the visible rust is surface rust suffered during outside storage and exposure to the elements.

New brakes and tires were also installed in '95.
The running tires are a matched set of 4 Uniroyal Tiger Paw XTM P195/75R14 radials with very good tread remaining. They are mounted on a set of original VW wheels. There is a spare tire and wheel for the front mount.

BODY & PAINT:
There was and is no collision damage evident anywhere on the van. The body still carries its original white paint.
The bumpers, ights and bezels, nd front grill were removed in preparation for body and paint, ut are still present with the vehicle.

New replacement patch panels were welded on and are evident along the rockers on both sides, s well as the lower rear left corner of the body. There is a new replacement panel for the lower right rear corner, hich was deemed not necessary to install.

There is also evidence of metal welded on the lower outer portion of the side sliding door.
Bottoms of both front doors appear solid, s does the rear upper hatch.

The lower repair areas show the application of filler and fiberglass, nd various spots all over the exterior body were sanded down but work remains unfinished.

There are some rust out holes right below the lower windshield rubber which will require repair.
The hood over the engine bay is not attached, nd has rust out along the inside lower edge.

Interior floor pans have a few small areas of rust, he biggest being under the driver's feet which had a patch laid down, ut for the most part the floors are pretty solid throughout.

INTERIOR:
The seat covers, eadliner, oor panels, nd front floor mat are original.
The passenger side of the dash was customized with a stereo, hat is no longer present and what you see is all there is.

OSB flooring in the main rear area was deteriorated and therefore removed in order to show condition of the metal floor pan. The OSB is still present under the rear bench as that was not removed, ut we believe the metal under the bench is OK.
Tag attached to the bench indicates Campmobile 70.

Other interior side paneling is weathered and will need replacing.
The windshield is cracked, ide and rear glass is good.

HANOVER TOP:
The fiberglass top is intact with no major damage or cracks evident, ut it is loose from the vehicle and is only strapped down to hold it in position.
Both roof top vents will need replacing.

The support brackets are in place inside the van, s are the remnants of the tattered side curtains which are still attached to the top lid.
This set up has 2 roll out cots which hang from the brackets assembly, nd according to the owner are quite comfortable. The 2 rolled up cots are visible on either side of the roof opening. This whole configuration will obviously need to be sorted and restored with new material, ut the components are believed to be all there.

The following picture of a red VW shows the exact same Hanover top on a restored unit.
