Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1970
Volkswagen Camper
This beautiful, ell-maintained bay window bus is complete and ready to take you cruising. With a brand new (not a rebuilt) 1.6 Liter German motor professionally installed less than 1,000 miles ago, ll it needs is to top off the fuel tank and go. The steering is tight and shifting between gears is smooth. It was bought new in 1970 and has been in the family ever since. It has been a spring-through-autumn traveler and has always been stored in a garage in the off-season. It has never been in an accident. The odometer reading is just under 118,000.
This bus was professionally repainted in 1987 with a small amount of Bondo here and there for some very minor dents. A new metal plate was installed for the battery shelf and it was undercoated. The frame and body are solid. The rear window seal could be replaced for cosmetic reasons but it does not leak. The driver's side door mechanism for the key is missing but can still be locked from the inside.
The front seats' upholstery is the original vinyl and still in perfect condition (no tears or worn spots), owever, ver time, t has become discolored, hus, he seat covers. (See picture of driver's seat). Sportsmobile Company of Indiana* installed the camper set-up. There is storage under the back box seat as well as the bench seat, verhead, ehind the wardrobe closet and even the side arm rests in the cargo area. The stainless steel sink has a pump faucet served by a removable 5-gallon water container. The icebox can hold a regular block of ice. The table can be used in or out of the camper. The bed is a ¾ size. The rear bed pad has some minor punctures due to a surprise visit by the neighbor's dog. The curtains are faded but still useable. The mosquito screening of the pop up top has some tears that need repair. The canvas and zipper are like brand new. All of the windows work and none are broken nor cracked.
During the last 7,000 miles the following new items were installed: Shocks, aster cylinder, ires, eater box, uffler, ail pipes, enerator, arburetor, park plugs, elt, eals and grease zerts.
*Sportsmobile is the trade name for the Sportsmobile company that started in 1961 and continues today as one of the oldest van conversion companies in the USA.
This is a really nice clean and honest bus. It is ready to be driven and loved by a new family.
