Description for Volkswagen Thing 1974

1974 Thing, rd Owner, lear Title, uns and Drives
VW Thing ready for restoration. Floors are completely shot and the body is very rusty. I am the 3rd owner after my Uncle owned it 20+ years. Car was stored in West Hampton, Y for many years in a damp garage. It runs and drives well, ut the tires are old and out of round, o at 45 mph it shakes like crazy. An extra brake hub is included for easy balancing by a shop once new tires are installed. The sump was held on by bolts, ut I used aircooled.net repair studs and it holds oil fine and uses 100% Stock VW parts. The engine is original but the electric choke on the carb is broken. I will be including the original carb with a new EMPI 34 PICT-3 carb. I replaced the head gaskets on the original black covers and that has stopped Oil Leaking from there as well. The top is shot, nd the headliner is corroded. The Convertible bows will clean up well, nd work as thay should. Seats are original, nd will need recovering and stuffing. All the electric works like it should. There is a wiper motor, ut I do not think its original and it is on all the time. It may be the switch, am not sure. The wiper linkage can probably be saved but it will need new wiper arms and blades. I am including a 5 point show bar with padding as well as a bikini top and bows. The Show bar will not be installed, s I would not want to do that with the floors in the state they are in. Besides, f you are going to put new floors in, ou should weld in the show bar for more support. Since I have the car I put in a new gas tank which has been coated with Caswell tank liner and the fuel system runs clean. I have changed the oil and run 91 Ethanol Free through the fuel system. The car has adequate power. The Speedometer has been changed, nd there is a sticker on the dash showing that this was done at around 44K. I don't know actual mileage. These cars turn heads wherever they go, o matter the condition.
