Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1976
1976 Volkswagen Bus/Vanagan WestfaliaA very nice pop-up camper. The engine has been changed to a '78, iving it the much-needed hydraulic lifters. This engine runs very strong and just passed the smog test with no problem. Passing cars with ease on relatively steep grades is not a problem for this car. There is an added oil cooler with a fan that keeps it running cool on even the hottest SoCal days. An auxiliary oil temperature gauge and on/off switch to control the fan gives you peace of mind. I honestly have only used the fan a few times when I have been stuck in the infamous L.A. traffic.
The dash has a new top so there are no ugly cracks. All the gauges and lights work except for the extra front bumper lights that have wires and switches, ut may not be functioning. There is a battery shut off for times when the car is stored or not in continuous use. A hidden switch also shuts off the ignition to thwart thieves. All the window rubber has been replaced and there is a new tinted windshield.
Two can sleep on the bottom level and one up above with the top up. This also allows plenty of headroom for using the sink (the reservoir and pump work well) and accessing all the storage. The rear seat and back area cushion are the original plaid. The front seats will need to be re-upholstered. I have the original curtains that are in very good condition for the back and sides.
I am assured by my mechanic that the van is rust-free, s can be expected from a California vehicle. The canvas for the pop-up needs to be replaced and there is a crack in the front right corner of the top up (see photos). It has been sealed, o it does not leak.
This van is fun to drive and always brings smiles and waves.
