Description for Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1966
You are bidding on a Nice original 1966 Karmann Ghia Convertible. I purchased this car on 6-23-15from a gentleman whose father had owned it for approximately 25 years and passed away. The car had been sitting in a garage for quite some time as it was covered in dust(a barn find). Since purchasing it I brought it home to my shop and did the following repairs;
-all wheels were removed and bead blasted and powder coated
-new radial tires were installed on the refurbished rims
-brakes were completely rebuilt (drums turned and arched,new lines, hoes, aster and slave cylinders replaced)
- engine was pulled and replaced with a 1600cc dual port long block that was built out with new pistons,rings,new valves, askets, eals, oses. A new carburater was installed and the distributor was rebuilt with new points, ondenser, ap, otor, lug wires and plugs.
-the original 6 volt system was converted to 12 volt with new regulator, enerator, tarter, tc..
-transaxle was fitted with new clutch, ressure plate, hrow out bearing, nbsp;main trans seal, nd half shaft boots
-electrical system was cleaned up to include new fuses, eadlights, ulbs, tc..
-a new throttle cable was installed
Overall this car is now mechanically sound and can be driven anywhere. Whats left to finish this restoration is body and paint and a new convertible top. The top bow and related parts are present for the refit of a new soft top.
The floor pans were replaced at some point in time by the prior owner. There is some evidence of surface rust bubbles on various parts of the car including some sections of the outside rocker panels. It was owned by a gentleman that had a wrecking/salvage yard for years. His son told me he had bought two Karmann Ghias from a salvage auction back in early 90's and kept them as his favorite cars. This one was re-titled recently by DMV and given a salvage title because of the record of purchase.
As you know these cars are getting harder to find and are quickly going up in value. If you have been looking for one in restorable condition then look no further. This car has had the mechanical done and is waiting for someone to finish the cosmetics. Please feel free to ask any questions or to arrange an inspection and test drive. Good luck bidding!
