Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1965
1965 Volkswagen Bus otherwise known as a Kombi. This Bus was originally imported to San Francisco in 1965. This Bus was pulled from the Santa Rosa airport and was used in its present condition for a few years. Before that it drove hippies aroundand likelywas a key player in the Summer of Love, if not THE key player. This is a great candidate for a restoration or fix up a bit and use it like it is. Not going to sugar coat anything here. The bus comes with a tired 1776 engine that has Hyrdaulic lifters, leaks live a sieve and has a stuck lifter. The engine will probably get you onto a shipping truck and will definitely get you in trouble if you decide to take it somewhere far. The Bus has the original "big nut" trans that's losing its second gear synchro and will need a rebuild or if your good, can be double clutched. There is rust at the rear gutter rails, rockers on both sides, bottoms of cargo doors, front doors and the front floor is a piece of wood. If your bidding on this you know what Wolfsburg West is and that they supply all Body panels. There is quite a bit of body fillerin the rear quarters from an old repair.Has a newer set of Continental Vanco tires which look somewhat like Bias Plys. All electrics work and yes, they are 12 volt. If you are bidding on this, you know what you are getting into, at the same time, these vehicles timeless simplicity and ease of repair make them a relatively painless procedure for someone handy with a welder. Each individual piece can be cut off and welded back on to look better than new. If I only had more time I would keep this and return it to its glory, its up to you to pick up the slack and get this beaut back on the road.
This Bus is a Commercial Kombi meaning front bench seat, with a partition.
