Description for Volkswagen Beetle - Classic 1964
This restored Beetle features a beautiful paint job, a new interior, and its original engine. With over 21 million produced worldwide (second to only the Toyota Corolla), the VW Beetle is one of the world’s favorite cars. From its German heritage, to the counterculture movement of the 1960’s, and finally the last produced Type-1 in 2003, the Beetle is truly a “People’s Car.” This particular Beetle was assembled in May 1964.
This 1964 Volkswagen Beetle is newly restored having been disassembled, painted, put back together, and reupholstered within the last year. The paint is a special pearlescent orange metallic that has a yellow tint in sunlight. The wheels have been painted to match the body and with the classic VW ‘dog-dish’ hubcaps. The glass looks to be original, and the chrome is blindingly bright. The underside is clean and rust free.
The interior features newly upholstered white seat covers, headliner, and door panels. The black carpets are new as well. The dash is painted pearlescent orange, the same as the exterior. Both the gauges, speed and fuel are fully functional. The radio is an aftermarket unit and is not currently functional. A good replacement will cost about $180.
Mechanically, this Bug has been serviced regularly and is very reliable. It has its original 1200 CC engine, reportedly rebuilt. We're assuming the engine is original because the date stamp on the engine matches that of the body (May 1964). The engine features a new ignition coil, voltage regulator, and relocated oil filter for ease of maintenance. The engine revs freely and sounds as it should, like an “angry sewing machine.” The four speed manual goes right into gear and feels tight and precise. The clutch feels like it’s been replaced recently. The Bug also has a current PA state inspection so you can be sure it's safe.
The Beetle is the most fun you can have on four wheels. It’s easy to drive, yet you can’t help but smile while driving it. And with this beautiful paint job, the car looks as much fun as it drives.
