Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1971

1971 Volkswagen Bus, with the original 1.6 liter Type 1 motor, and a 4-speed manual transmission. This bus has only 113,704 original miles! (although title states "odometer beyond mechanical limits", since it's not a 6-digit odometer) This VW Bus runs, even after sitting for 5 years. For some reason, it's not getting fuel, so I suspect that the mechanical fuel pump is shot form sitting. It fires right up with starting fluid though (see video below). It's been sitting for a while, so at the least a tune up and fluids change is recommended (I already drained old gas and put in fresh gas). The motor is strong, and the transmission and clutch have no issues. The brakes work and have good pedal pressure. That being said, this bus has been mostly sitting for quite some time, so itwillneed tires to be road worthy, needs a battery, and all of the rubber fuel lines should be checked to ensure there are no potential leak hazards. The bus will need some body work, as you can see in the pics. The bones of this bus are in great shape, with no holes in the floors or front step wells. At some point, the bus was hit in the rear passenger corner. As you can see, that section of the bus needs some work, as will both lower rear corners. The passenger front door will need replaced, as water seeped in through the window seal, and the bottom is very rusty. Some potential rust concerns around windshield. Sliding door track is in great shape, slides with no issues. Basically, this will need a good going through, or even better, start your restoration!
This bus has a weekender camper interior with electrical outlets. I'm unsure if this is a factory Westfalia package, but it seems to be. The closet was shot, so I installed a closet from 1973 a Westfalia, not sure why the closet door was cut, but replacements are easy to find. It has the fold out z-bed, and the fold out table. Not pictured is the rear overhead storage bin, but it will be included.
This bus has has only been driven a handful of times over the last many years. There are areas that could use attention, but it's a great bus. The undercarriage is super solid, with only a few bad areas. Check out the pics, you'll see how much potential it has.
