Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1968
For Sale is a 1968 VW Transporter. A barn find, or desert find rather that has spent the overwhelming majority of it's life in Arizona. Over the past 5 years it has been restored to 80%-85%. Mechanically, the bus has been professionally rebuilt from the tires up back to it's original 1600cc configuration. Fresh engine rebuild professionally machined 10over, new pistons-no sleeves.
New:flywheel,crank,pistons,heads,carb,fuel pump/lines,dog house/sheet metal,shocks,spindles,axles,brakes/lines,ignition switch/tumbler and keys,rebuilt transmission.
A week ago I had a complete tune up done on it to prepare for sale; receipts available, but to sum up brakes serviced, fuel filters, rear main seal, timing, etc so it's all ready to go right out of the box.
Cosmetically:It has a new interior, except for the seats and dash, both of which are in good shape (see pics). Additionally, it has a new windshield, door rubber, and window rubber (2 years old). Body work and paint were both professionally done 2 years ago, and it has minor nicks and scratches from normal driving. Chrome trim is original, so it shows wear, but still adds enough of an accent to set it apart from standard buses.
Full disclosure:A bus of this vintage does not make it to this age without some rust, not even in the arid climate of southern Arizona. You'll notice there is no heat return tube (heater) and the vent controls are frozen per se,that's because we don't need them in Arizona. The turn signal switch recently stopped functioning. The passenger side window wiper motor is tired and will eventually need to be replaced. Again, it doesn't rain a lot here so I let it be. There's a spot under the driver's side wheel well that's been patched with a steel plate by a previous owner that has never given me any problems and doesn't affect how the bus looks. The driver's side door and bumper has some scratches (no dents). The sending unit for the fuel gauge stopped working, so I fill it up every 100 miles, when the last 2 digits on odometer are at or close to 00.
Bottom Line:If you want a daily driver, or Sunday driver for that matter, that will turn heads and is a pleasure to drive, this is the bus for you.Clean Arizona title
