Description for Volkswagen Golf 1992
For sale I have my 1992 Mk2 Golf 4 door which I pretty much converted to an Uber-GTI as far as engine, suspension, braking, interior and electronics & comfort go.This is a 49-state "Federal" model, I got it on the East Coast and drove it all over the States. It has a fully functioning cat & oxygen sensor and a quiet exhaust system.Stainless steel 4-2-1 header with dual oxygen sensors is included uninstalled. This is a classic VW - new cars have no soul.
I have to sell it due to work-related leg injury, I have been issued handicapped placards & with the insurance delaying my treatment I havehard time driving thiscoolstick shiftold-school to enjoy it properly. ;o(
Please send a message if interested with answers & any comments; if you'd like - leave a number & I'll call.Tell a friend who has always wanted one.You can look at my 100% feedback going back 16 years. When I do something, I do it right or not at all with nothing to hide or rig.
I also have an Mk1 1990 Cabriolet with the same engine, same ABS big brake kit I designed, Eibach springs / Bilstein yellow shocksand all options (PW, CC, locks & alarm) in case you are interested, drop me a note.
Since Volkswagen of America back in the day refused to bring and sell an Mk2 GTI in the 4-door package in the US, I have slowly built one myself over time - I've had this car for 15+ years. Due to leg injury it is sadly time to say goodbye - I would like to send it to a good VW home to someone who will love it as much as I do.
I have put over 300 thousand miles on this car myself - it has 466K on the chassis, but it is straight, reinforced and runs better than when it was brand new. I have done everything the right way on this car to make it faster, better handling, better stopping, more comfortable and safer to drive. Many parts installed are under lifetime warranty under my name - I could work with the buyer should one of them wear out or need replacement. I always stayed on top of things.New belts, new heater core, flushed cooling system and new coolant & thermostat, new oil filter and synthetic oil just in, new shifter bushing kit installed this month. Car is ready to go past half a million miles!
After being unhappy with the little 1.8 8V engine the car came with, I first installed an 3A 2.0 8V block in there(from Audi 80), then an 9A 2.0 16V and finally I have built an ABA 20 16V (known as ABF worldwide). The current engine has 10K miles on it since full rebuild with main & rod bearings, rods re-bushed, piston rings, valve job, timing belt & chain, lifters, German ABF 16V cams etc. Full 4-wheel disc ABS conversion with front 4-piston brakes from a 40% heavier S-class Mercedes, rear big disc upgrade and race pads, cars stops flawlessly.Suspension is dialed in - fully adjustable dampening Tokico illumina shocks with Neuspeed Sport springs, adjustable front and rear Neuspeed sway bars, front upper & lower and upper rear Autotech stress bar - this car handles awesome in the twisties or when having to avoid something in an emergency maneuver. Always kept on top of steering components - installed polyurethane bushings & got lifetime warranty on ball-joints & tie-rods and would replace them before they would wear out or become suspect.Transmission is geared for good acceleration and great fuel economy in the 5th gear, with the lightened flywheel and composite clutch it takes off quicker. Big 100mm axles have lifetime warranty too, 80% Peloquin diff kit helps in the rain over stock. I added cruise control, MFA - both work great... and triple pod with voltage, oil pressure and oil temp gauges so you know when something would bad before the red cluster light would flash and it's too late.Zero collisions, I have never hit another car in my life as I have good peripheral vision, but also always make sure to upgrade brakes & suspension/steering components on my cars to keep things better than stock and on par / above modern cars around me. 4 years ago I actually got rear-ended in the Golf(just tapped, no damage to my car / no claim)when I stopped but some genius behind me couldn't stop in time - his words "I thought no way an old car could stop so fast". No insurance claims ever. No rust at all, but the paint job / clear coat peeled on the hood & top due to the desert sun. As Joe Dirt famously said: "* it will buff out" ;o)If you buy it, you won't be sorry & you could not build a car like this for what I am asking.Basically get the car for the price of the performance parts that are in it and drive the parts home! ;o)I know it will serve you well.
Engine: internally ballanced 2.0 16V ABA conversion with original German ABF cams, aluminium fuel rail, cold air intake with foam filter, oil cooler. This engine gets 154HP stock. Starts, idles and revs perfect. Bosch +3 triple copper electrode plugs and MSD Blaster 2 coil for proper ignition. Fuel management is Digifant 2 with a performance chip with a 7000rpm redline and corresponding timing/fueling adjustment. I also have an uninstalled stainless steel 4-2-1 style 16V header with dual oxygen sensor bungs that I will include, should be good for another 15HP improvement. Rear engine mount has a polyurethane insert (you can take it out), front hydro mount. Mk3 style 6-rib pulley conversion with 120A alternator & A/C. Full copper radiator (core and end tanks) from an Arizona company "Performance radiator" for indestructibility (over the stock plastic end tank type). 16V fuel pump. A/C is not charged but works (R134a / Mk3 conversion). Car hauls.
Transmission: 7A 020 5-speed with Peloquin 80% diff kit and 100mm axle conversion that has .71 5th - super low cruising RPMs for great fuel economy (35+ when not going crazy), Gripforce Stage 2 8V clutch, lightened flywheel, 100mm axles. It has a Eurosport short-shift kit, Mk3 weighed shifter linkage with the shifter bushings rebuilt this week, fresh starter (with lifetime warranty).I will also include a 16V 020 9A code transmission with a .75 5th speed kit, freshly machined stock flywheel and a lightly used 16V clutch set I took off to replace it with the Stage 2. Jamex pedal covers. Aluminum passenger axle heat shield. Car has super rare 160mph speedo and I will just say that "with professional driver on a closed course" downhill even with the aerodynamics of a brick, mathematically you could get there far before redline...
Brakes: full 4-wheel disc ABS conversion with Corrado G60 management ECU and wheel sensors & electric brake booster, stainless steel braided hoses. Front brakes are 11.8" with 4-piston S-class Mercedes calipers and EBC Yellowstuff race pads, rear 10.2" conversion with Hawk HPS (high performance street) pads. These brakes are amazing - overkill from a car that weighs 40% more plus the race pads bite even harder when heated without fading. I designed & built this brake setup and have made the adapters for 2 of my other cars. If you don't get the car and are interested in such a setup, let me know. Car stops on a dime and gives you change back. Literally amazing - these alone are worth half the starting price and will make sure that you can always stay safe.
Suspension & steering: bigger front hubs (Corrado) with new bearings, new tierods and ball joints, Prothane control arm bushings - steering is true and alignment is perfect. Corrado front upper strut mounts, Prothane polyurethane rear shock mounts. Dampening adjustable Tokico illumina shocks with Neuspeed Black Sport springs adjustable in the back with coilover sleeve (I wanted it to sit higher). Front Neuspeed adjustable swaybar, rear Neuspeed adjustable sway bar, front lower Autotech solid stress bar, rear upper Autotech adjustable stress bar between shock towers, Jamex adjustable front upper stress bar. Car handles awesome.
Wheels & tires: 4x100 15"x7" 6-point star "Borbet C"-style knock-off rims, 195/50/R15 Hankook Ventus Concept tires V2 with under 3K miles driven = 90% thread left. Perfectly balanced and centered, no rubbing on the body or wear. 15" full circumference donut spare, extra 5th rim of the same style.
Added comfort components:keyless entry / Black Widow alarm with power door locks, full 4-door power window conversion + Jesus handles + height adjustable front seat belt points from a 4dr Jetta GLI, 4 steel Armor door plates, Passat style cruise control (pulls the gas pedal, not the throttle body under the hood - no leaks or creeping), super rare fully functioning 160mph Mk2 speedometer with fully functioning MFA, GLI cruise & MFA stalk conversion, added functioning oil pressure / oil temperature / voltage triple gauge pod in the original stereo location, stereo moved to center console opening. Volvo armrest console with dual retractable front & rear cup holders and storage. Mk2 GTI 2-dr front black leather seats with blue cloth inserts and forward flip function with passenger and driver back portions of seats swapped as in newer cars (back adjusting knobs moved outside for easier seat adjustment to clear the center armrest). Original gray carpet, GLI gray vinyl door panels. Silver Scirocco 16V manual sunroof with tilt & slide option, replaced black cloth headliner, black visors. Passat dual dome light with 30 second delay. Rear GTI 60% - 40% split seat. Blind spot mirrors. Rear lay-flat wiper. Rear hatch top spoiler. Not included, but I have a super rare Zender rear bottom wing spoiler for sale separately if you'd like. I had an Optima yellow top battery in there, but it quit 2 weeks ago and it was a month out of the 3-year free replacement warranty, so I replaced it with regular lead-acid type. I can give you the Optima too if you can revive it.
Lighting:complete Euro conversion on the lights - 4-round grille, individually relayed low / high / pencil beams. HID conversion on the pencil beams (H3), incandescent (stock) H4 low/high beams. Parking light bulb in the H4 housings. Side markers converted to turn signals. Pencil beams hooked up to the stock VW GTI fog light switch, so they can be turned on individually with the key in ignition. Awesome lighting at night - you can only go as fast as far you can safely see!
Tinting: 3M brand 30% tint in the front doors, 5% visor strip, 5% rear doors & 5%hatch. No bubbles - done by reputable store with lifetime warranty. Keeps the sun out as much as it legally can.
Stereo: Sony CD/MP3 with USB and AUX inputs. Sony dash speakers, Bose front door top triangle tweeters added (where rear view mirrors mount), front door pocket Pioneer speakers, added rear door Bose speakers, rear C-pillar 4"x6" Pioneer speakers (10 speaker stereo). Nothing drastic but it sounds pretty awesome... I can sell you an infinity subwoofer with an amp I got with another car and don't use if you'd like with it.
Car runs awesome, steers true, brakes are insane, tires are with under 3K miles. All comfort / electronics work.
The bad: paint / clear coat peeled on the hood and on the roof - the car has been in Arizona & California sun for the most of the last 15 years - it can be buffed out though.Dash has a small line crack on top but I've had the black dash cover on it for years. A/C is not charged, but is functional (R134a Mk3 Conversion).
Extra good:Again, most of the wear items like starter, axles, suspension bits (tie-rods, ball joints), water pump, rear/hatch support shocks, etc. are under my name with lifetime warranty, so I could always work those with you in case you would need them replaced. I also have many extra parts I can throw in to make you happy - spare fuel pumps, relays, distributor, cables, big lip for the front bumper, etc.
I really want this car to go to a good VW home. I took good care of it since 2002 and it has been a trusty friend on many coast-to-coast drives.
