Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1970
1970 VW Double Cab
Runs excellent, starts on first turn of the key, rebuilt about 35k miles ago, strong compression, good brakes, good tires, recently had it tuned for sale. Over the last couple years it has been cosmetically restored - trying to keep it original while replacing necessary parts - please see details below. This doka is popular at the localcars and coffee show, fun to drive, and no matter where you take it, it always gets a lot of thumbs ups and compliments. Its also been handy to have for hauling, kayakingand surfing.
Engine: 1600cc rebuilt about 30k miles back, runs excellent, starts and idles perfectly, good power. Original everything including the oil bath air cleaner. Recent tune-up by a reputable classic VW shop included valve adjustment, oil change, oil bath air cleaner (removed, cleaned, replaced), new distributor, and new fuel filter.
Transmission: Original manual 4 speed was rebuilt by previous owner who had it for over 25 years. Transmission works well, no slipping, gears engage well, smooth.
Body: Had it repainted about two years ago, gets a lot of compliments but is not a show paint job. Engine bay is still original white paint from factory, was not painted intentionally so original paint still exists on the truck.I have all the before and after pictures including the paint process, truck had/has solid original panels in good condition. The nose skin (metal on front of bus between headlights) was only metal replaced as it was dented in several places and shop advised replacing it vs. having a bunch of filler on front of the truck. Interior is in good condition, front and rear seats are in good condition, were reupholstered a couple years ago - has front/rear seat-belts. Interior lights, flasher, exterior lights, back up lights, speedometer, tach, wipers, emergency light ... all work well. Radio is just there to fill the hole, there are no speakers inside the truck. All three door locks are same key as ignition. New window seals were installed after paint on the side windows, windshield, and rear window.
History: Ibought the doka from the second owner who had it 25 years, and kept it well maintained by a reputable classic VW shop inLaguna Beach. The last couple years I have been restoring it slowly, and love this truck. I am regretfully selling it to help with business costs. Haven't been able to get info on the original owner.
Price: This is a solid, well running DOKA that looks great. However it is not a concourse show truck and has minor imperfections like any other 50 year old vehicle. I am open to offers however please keep in mind they are selling in a range from $28k - $60k, and even more for concourse perfect double cabs. My neighbor offered $30k - to use the DOKA as a prop for his restaurant. This truck is way too good to sit as a prop. Offers over $30k are ideal to win this truck.
Inspection Issues: There is some unnoticeable rust on the underside of the passenger door and bottom side of the rear cab door that was not cut out and replaced, could be done by next owner or since its not affecting anything and not noticeable it could be left as is. Cost is about $800 to fix both doors with new metal. This is a common problem in VW's when the window seals are old and dry, and never replaced. It was treated and painted and then taped, you would have to look up underneath the door to see it, can't be seen with doors open - see pics. Both doors work perfectly fine with no issues, open and shut perfectly. Other known issue is the truck bed side gate on the driver side is slightly bowed about a half inch, does not effect gate in any way but visually. It could be fixed or side gates are available if new owner wanted to replace it, never was an issue to me.
Any questions please call 949-322-88 five five. I was told to write 55 out so I don't get random texts.Inspections are welcome, please contact me and I will make the double cab accessible. Be happy to assist with shipping as needed. Last, I can keep it my garage for up to two weeks or longer if buyer requests.
