Description for Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1971
1971 Karmann Ghia Convertible.Up until about 6 years ago, it ran well, but will not start now due to disuse. It has been in my garage for the past 6 years. Prior to that I drove it on a semi-regular basis around town, and it ran well.
I bought this car in 1985, and I was the second owner. It has been a second car for me. In early 1990s, I had it painted, replaced the top and interior and had it looking and running great. As you can see from the photos, it needs a new top (the wooden bow is rotted), it has some rust around the edges, it has a few dents on the back left (my wife backed into it). The interior is cracking. All I can say about the engine is it ran well when it was last cranked six years ago (it would have a little gas smell sometimes). There were no problems with the transmission. I am not a mechanic and have not made an effort to get it to start, but I have no reason to believe it has any significant problem. The last time I drove it the brakes were not great. When I tried to push it out of my garage, it would not budge so something may be locked up.
It has a nice glass back window. I hate to let it go; I have owned it for 33 years, but I have two kids in college and having it fixed up is not in the plan. It is a good car. If you have any questions, please message me.
The original color was yellow. I had it painted blue in the early 1990s. The original top color was black. The dash is a vinyl wood grain. The doors are hard to close. I do not believe the floor pans have rust.
The odometer shows about 79,000 miles, but the odometer only worked periodically. I doubt I put 25,000 miles on the car while I had owned it. But they were cool miles. Wooed my wife with it. Lately it has been used as a surfboard holder (surfboards not included).
Sold as is.
