The Thing was only called "The Thing" in North America where it went on sale in 1973; elsewhere it was known as the Trekker, the Safari or simply Type 181. Spartan by design, the Thing became quite popular in the US market as it appealed especially to the youth. The Thing... cost only $2,775.00 dollars making it affordable to the American public.
