Description for Volkswagen Beetle-New 1968
The VW Bug was called The Peoples Car, and for some good reasons. It was an easy to drive, easy to maintain car that is simple, reliable, and fuel efficient. The early ones, like this one, have obviously become collectable, but they are also still fun to drive and attract attention wherever they show up. This car is pretty obviously set up for traveling. There is an aluminum roof rack with wooden slats that can carry quite... a load, and one on the trunk for the overflow. Load up the suit cases and the surf boards and head out for adventure. Head out alone, go with a friend, or load up with a car full. Come back with good memories and stories to tell. The Red paint on this car was resprayed some time ago and is holding up well. The compound curves of the hood are smooth with a thin chrome bead down the center that ends at the handle used to access the front compartment. A chrome bumper with black insert underlines the hood. Another chrome bead runs down the side of the car and the back bumper has a couple chrome exhaust pipes peeking out from underneath it. The car sits on black steel wheels with trim rings and VW hubcaps which add to the perfect classic look. The interior is simple and clean in Black and Red. Emphasis is on simple here. The black steering wheel has the Wolfsburg Castle crest in the center. In front of it is a single round gauge which is the speedometer with a fuel gauge. A couple ventilation control knobs are in the center of the dash which control the heat which is captured off the exhaust system and directed up to the front on these cars. The heater system on this car looks solid and like it will keep you warm in cold weather driving. Other than windshield wipers, there is not much else to worry about or break on the inside of this car. The seats work nicely and are just waiting for friends to pile in for a road trip. The engine on this car is the tried and true opposed 4-cylinder, air cooled motor that has signs of good regular maintenance in the new cap and wires. These motors can't freeze up in the winter because there is no water in them, and they can't spring a coolant leak for the same reason. The floor pans on this car are solid and there is a 4-speed manual transmission which is as simple as it gets, and gets you where you want to go. 165/85R15 tires all around are pretty quaint looking given the size of the tires on cars today, but are all this car needs. If you used to own one of these cars, if you are a collector looking for a solid car, or if you are a driver looking for something a little different, you should come down and check out this classic VW Bug.
