Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1977
Yellow with white trim 1977 camper bus, Riviera style. $17,999 OBOLocated in Los Angeles, CA - registered in Durango, CO through June 2019Runs great. Pop-up works and is in great condition with original working hardware. Overall the body is in great shape for her age. No major damage, but a few minor rust spots. Have been told the body and engine are original. The sliding door panel shows repair marks under the paint when lighting is at correct angle and you look closely. This repair was made by a previous owner, so I have no information about it. Removable wood burning stove works and is easy to install and remove.
Have car cover for bus when storing and not driving. Mileage is 92,780. Have been told by mechanic this is the original engine and not a rebuild.
The camper top pops up with screened in area for bunk style sleeping. Canvas and hardware are in excellent working condition. There are a tiny holes in the screening, but no rips or holes in the canvas. Storage and cupboards throughout interior. The shelf for the bed and hardware also in original working order. Second bed available when folding down back bench seat. Storage also under bench seat. Sleeps 4 adults (2 up top and 2 on the main level). The front passenger bucket seat slides in/out to face frontwards or backwards. Makes for nice seating area while camping.
As mentioned, in good mechanical working condition. Air cooled 2 liter VW engine. 4-speed manual transmission. Original engine has been taken regularly by me with my German mechanic for oil/filter changes, new hoses and regular maintenance since owning. Also under my ownership a new clutch, front shocks, ignition coil, points and alternator have been replaced. Newer tires with front mounted spare. Not my main car, so is only used occasionally.
All gear shifting is smooth, except going into 3rd takes a soft touch. If patient it shifts smoothly. Reverse works perfectly.
You could drive off and go camping in it immediately.
Being sold AS-IS. Buyer required to verify mechanical information as I am not a mechanic and not claiming to be.
Registered in Colorado through June 2019, where I purchased 8 years ago while living in Durango, CO. Moved to California and brought the van with me, but recently returned to Colorado and decided to sell rather than taking back with me. The bus is with my parents in Los Angeles and they have all the paperwork. Their last name matches mine and the title. Original title and Colorado registration in hand.
History as I understand it: Originally from Alaska, purchased by guy who sold to me. He was 2nd owner according to him, which makes me the 3rd owner. He bought in Alaska from original owner then moved and drove down to Durango, CO, where he owned for 3+ years before selling to me. I still have original Alaska license plates. The previous owner is a renowned artist now living in Washington state. He added some unique touches including a functional wood-burning stove with venting, which is easily installed/removed, and an original stained glass window.
While I’ve owned, I have kept it in good working order and camped all over the USA in it; including, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Idaho, Utah, California and more. She has treated me well, is a lot of fun to drive around and camp in. This is a hard decision to sell, but think the bus is ready for a new owner and new adventures.
Would love to see someone fully restore her to like new condition, which seems like it would be easier than some of the other old buses out there.
Prefer cash or money order. If personal check or other form of payment, will not sign over title or bus until payment clears.
