Description for Volkswagen Type III 1968
I have owned this car for 10 years. The previous owner had made some nice modifications and over time I fixed and updated a lot that was left to do. This car was originally an import, based on the VIN# and due to the fact in US models in 1968 the seats would have to have been high back. So this is a fairly unique year model. As far as the body goes, this car has excellent floor pans and no visible rust issues, when I bought it there were only a few minor rust bubbles on the exterior which were surface rust. I had it painted 3 years ago and at the time they ground down any small rust bubbles and sealed them off to prevent further rust. Since I have owned this it has primarily been a spring and fall car for canyon drives, car meets, etc. I never take it out in any rain or snow it is always a dry driver. The owner before me was the same way, he brought it from California was what I was told.
The engine was rebuilt prior to when I bought it. It was modified to a 12v alternator system and has an aftermarket exhaust and oil cooler added. I put new EMPI 44 dual carburetors on it and had then synchronized as the old originals were leaking. I had the alternator rebuilt 5 years ago. I had all the wiring cleaned up in the interior and added a modern radio and speakers. I have the oil changed and valves adjusted every year and I only put 300-500 miles per year on it. It does have a small oil leak which I haven't traced down, not big enough to worry about. Clutch and pressure plate replaced 4 years ago.
The seats were redone prior to when I bought it but I had all of the carpet redone including the custom carpet on the engine deck. All of the interior side panels are new as well within the last 3 years. I had all of the front suspension rebuilt and replaced 4 years ago including all of the shocks and struts, tie rods, steering bushings, etc. Tires are about 5 years old but have 80% tread left. The car was converted to 4 wheel hydraulic disc brakes with a hydraulic parking brake. Aftermarket spoiler with 3rd Brake light has been installed.
Issues. Odometer has never worked, horn doesn't work. I may be missing a few things but really this is all that sticks out. This is a great car with a lot of investment already done. This is ready to drive and has been very reliable
