Description for Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1966
Low reserve. Excellent candidate for restoration. In running condition with original engine, in-tact glass and virtually NO RUST! This vehicle lands between fair (#3) and poor (#4) on the Hagarty condition table. It runs well but has many visible flaws including missing and/or rusted chrome and very imperfect paint. All glass appears to be factory original with no cracks or known chips. There are no major body dents, and rust seems to be confined mostly to a small area of engine bay where there may have been a battery leak. The dash and interior surfaces are good. No major parts are missing and the wheels are original. There are no known issues with engine, transmission and running gear and it starts and tracks well however there is an electrical issue that occasionally prevents starting with a the key. (If this happens, the car can be started by pressing a solenoid button near the engine.) This appears to be a loose connection but I haven’t been able to find it. This car has been reliable and we have taken it on long (1600 mile) trips. The tires, although not worn, are old and should be replaced. Much of the factory-original rubber needs to be replaced. This car has been in the family for more than 20 years. It was put into storage in September of 2017 and has not been run since. Six volt system has never been upgraded.
Prior to being put in storage it was used frequently during the summer months. The mileage appears to be correct because when the car was bought by a family member in the late 1980s it only had about 64,000 miles on it. The car was originally yellow and a family member painted it black many years ago and he did a very poor job of it. The seats and interior carpeting were re-done at that time. This car has always been garaged and used only occasionally in summer. The last major road trip was in 2013 for a trip to Missouri.
This car is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS with no warranty of any kind. Although we have taken care to ensure that our description is accurate, it remains the buyer's responsibility to ensure that the vehicle is as described. The vehicle is available for local inspection and you are urged to do so in person or have your own representative do so. Because of the time this car has been in storage it should not be run without a complete inspection and servicing.
