Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1986
1986 VW VOLKSWAGEN VANAGON SYNCRO WESTFALIA WOLFSBURG WEEKENDER
From the June 12, 2018 GoWesty online newsletter: "The 1986 Vanagon Syncro Wolfsburg Weekender is one of the most coveted VW campers on the planet.â€
This is actually a 1986.5. That may not mean much to the casual observer but to those that know, this is when the locking rear differential was introduced. And, yes, that is a big deal. Why? Because, short of a winch, you probably won't get stuck anywhere that you're likely to travel. So, sleep well, when the snow melts and your tires are mud deep, you'll be able to get on your way.
Here's what I can tell you about ours....
131,226 very pampered miles. Licensed in Washington State its entire life. Vehicles from around here are known to have little to no rust.
Starts and drives like new. It's ready to be driven across town, across the country or around the world.
Always maintained to a very high standard with a "spare-no-expense" approach.
All wheel drive. Locking rear differential. Rebuilt engine. New clutch.
The interior is beautiful. The upholstery and carpets are in great shape. It's also had custom rubber mats up front and a custom cut and hemmed-edge carpet on the middle floor for years. All of the original curtains are in excellent condition. It has a full cover for storage.
The poptop and poptop bed are in great shape. Some condensation marks on the "flocked" ceiling and a small tear (repaired) on the screen but otherwise all good and all original. The cargo tray was just redone with a new gasket, new chrome cleats, and epoxied screens over the drain holes. And, of course, everything was very thoroughly cleaned throughout this process.
Body and paint look great.
Factory A/C.
Dual batteries.
Locking rear differential.
Includes all original owner's manuals.(Incredibly rare and almost impossible to find this complete.)
We also did numerous upgrades...too many to list...but here are a few:
Transmission rebuilt by German Transaxle including taller 5th gear.
Engine rebuild and new clutch at 122846 miles.
Stainless steel exhaust.
H4 headlights.
GoWesty upgraded alternator wiring harness.
GoWesty upgraded starter.
Hancook All Weather Tires including spare in 2016.
Upgraded VW Alloy Wheels.
Three VW headrests for rear bench seat with VW mounting brackets.
Front seats reupholstered in matching tan courdoroy. Extra fabric included.
Custom carpet (for middle area) and 3 rubber mats (front area).
VW Tachometer.
Original Dometic refrigerator works great. It's AC/DC so we used it indoors to keep our brined turkey and briskets cold.
Miscellaneous body gaskets and rubber trim replaced as necessary.
Professionally tinted windows.
Blackened screens. Big improvement. (Why didn't VW do this?!)
Cargo tray has new gasket, chrome brackets and epoxied screens over drain holes. Everything was completely cleaned too.
Stainless steel cooling hose kit.
And much, much more! Some, but definitely not all, of what else has been done or is included is set forth in the list that appears at the end of the photos. And, yes, we have all the receipts. Actually, twenty or so years worth.
This Syncro all-wheel drive goes almost anywhere. The low gear pulls like crazy. The locking rear differential can get you out of just about any snow or muck you find yourself in. And the upgraded taller 5th gear is great for smooth, fuel-efficient highway cruising.
This Westy is 33 years old but it is in remarkably good condition and has been professionally and regularly maintained its entire life. It has a few imperfections but, except for the 6 disc CD changer skipping and a couple of unfilled speaker holes in the front doors, they're pretty much all cosmetic, i.e., small chip in windshield (repaired), some chips and fading on the black handles and key surrounds. Otherwise amazing condition for its age.
The Auto-Check Report accompanying this listing is all good.
ALL PHOTOS ARE CURRENT, UNRETOUCHED ORIGINALS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PHOTOSHOPPED OR ALTERED IN ANY WAY.
It's been well known among those that know us that if my wife had to chose between me or her beloved Westy, it would be a serious toss up and I think I know the result. But I love them both anyway.
We love our Westy very much and want it to go to a good home and a loving owner. Good karma matters to us. So, please, no tire kickers, scammers, or waste-of-timers. If you know what you're looking at, then you know this is it.
If you're considering a full camper instead of a Weekender, we did to. In fact, we bought a full camper first but it felt kind of crowded to us. The refrigerator never seemed to work which we discovered is a common problem. The so-called "tables" were very small and had to be packed away when not in use which took up more space. The bed isn't as wide. There is less passenger seating. They weigh more. The exterior around the plug ins always seems to have rust issues. We know a lot of people love their full campers, but we simply found the Weekender edition to be much more comfortable and efficient for numerous reasons.
Legalities: You will receive everything mentioned in this listing, and more, as well as a clear Washington Certificate of Title and a Bill of Sale. Sold as is, where is. No warranties, refunds or returns. Ask all questions before bidding. Pictures are part of the description.
I've sold several vehicles (all mine...no flipping) on ebay with very happy buyers, so no worries. If you're still not sure, I've been an eBay member for over twenty years. Check my Seller feedback and bid with total confidence.
One more thing...in all seriousness...if you've been looking for one of these, look no more, you've found The One.
Thanks for looking and best wishes to you!
