Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1977
1977 VW tin top bus with salvaged title.
Up for sale is our beloved Vida. A 1977 "Tin Top" Camper. Unfortunatly we were hit in the side and it was totalled by our insurance company and I was able to retain her from the crusher as I know do-to her rust free condition she is certainly restorable and deserves a good home. She has approx42,000 miles on the rebuilt factory fuel injected 2 liter hydraulic valve motor. Manual transmission.Clutch was replaced recently. The engine bay is very clean and tidy (see pictures). The transmission shifted crisp and precise. The motor ran strong. The van cruised at high way speeds easily. The steering was tight, brakes were excellent.Newer correct load rated light truck tires with approx. 85% tread front and rear.
This bus spent most of its life in The Pacific North West. 99% rust free. This bus has been garaged during my ownership. This van has had one repaint by the previous owner (dark metallic blue). The repaint is a very presentable driver quality paint job except for the obviouse damage from a recent accident that slvaged the title. All of the window rubber has been replaced. Had nice door and body gaps. The under carriage, frame, jack points, nose, floors, dog legs, inner rockers, all doors, battery trays, gutter, ect. are rust free. All four wheels were repainted. The factory undercoating has done a very good job of preserving the undercarriage of the van.
The interior is in excellent condition. The complete interior was taken out and the floors and behind the interior panels were painted with a heavy duty bed liner paint to protect the bus from water, rust, as well as some sound deadening benefits. The dash is perfect and has no cracks. I recently had the driver and passenger side front seats both reupholstered. The seat pads were replaced with all new foam padding. Correct vinyl basket weave reproduction seat covers from TMI were used. The rear bed/seat, jump seat, and rear cushion upholstery is in excellent condition. All new interior panels out of 1/4 birch ply wood ie;(front door panels, slider door panel, long panel, and rear panels). A Pioneer CD player that is Ipod and MP3 compatible. The original head liner is near perfect with the exception of one very small 1 inch cut.The rear bed is a full size bed (there is no rear blind spots with this interior lay out). Plenty of storage under the Z-bed, jump seat, and the closet behind the drivers seat. Three seat belts in back. Newer carpet in back as well as a new Plywood table that fold up or down. New ABS plastic glove box. Nice color coordinated "snow flake" curtains. The heater, dash lights, fuel gauge, blinkers, head lights, brake lights, wipers, blinkers, ect. all worked well.
This is a nice looking clean van and was incredibly reliable prior to the accident and can be again. I have never had any issues with the van during my ownership. The motor ran like a watch. The 2 liter fuel injected hydraulic motor (found in 77-79 VW buses) is considers by many the most reliable, powerful, and best air-cooled motor Volkswagen ever built. The van has been meticulous maintained and serviced. This is a very nice van perfect for camping, cruising, or a very nice daily driver. Salvaged GA title.
Issues with the van since the accident.
- Look at photo's to see extent of visable damages. Body damage in drivers side mainly but effects the drivers door which will not open and sliding door on passenger side will not latch closed
- All widows other than windsheild are in tact but I have only been able to move it around and not drive it on the road so I cannot say it tracks straight or not.
Note: I have included several before pictures for comparison. This sale is an "AS IS" sale and as I am unable to assess the extent of the damages, you are encouraged to have the vehicle inspected by a professional prior to purchase. All offers and bids are final. Please feel free to ask questions during the bidding proccess.
