Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1979
Listing this bus for a friend of mine. It's a 1979 VW Riviera CamperClear SC title.
Odometer reads 49,000.
The GOOD: Newer tires, Brand new battery, New Weber Carb, New intake gaskets, New intake boots, New Air Cleaner, New fuel pump, New engine seal, as well as MANY other new parts recently, quite honest, too much to list.
The bus is exceptionally solid for it's age. It was garaged most of itslife. The only rust known is in both of the battery trays in the engine compartment (very typical) and along the driver side rear fender well. Otherwise all the floors, doglegs, frame, etc is VERY solid. There is some light surface rust here and there, but nothing else major besides the listed known places.
*It will need a new exhaust as well as a new heat exchanger and probably some fresh gas. It WILL start right up, run and drive, but because of a big hole in the exhaust, it is loud and I would highly recommend trailering it, it's also been off the road for the past 6 months, so probably could use a tune up before driving it of any distance.
The transmissionshifts smoothly, clutch is good and the brakes are good. The engine runs great, but does smoke a little from the bad exhaust and bad heat exchanger, and is loud because of it as well. Also, could use a new throttle cable, as it's been spliced and it "sticks." The upholstery is VERY nice for it's age, but the cabinetry shows a lot of age from the wood. Some places appear to have been wet before and have some warping/or discoloration, or soft spots (such as the jump seat where the stove goes. Also, the stove lines are NOT currently hooked up in it, nor is the refrigerator. There has been some cabinetry repair work done through the years due to itsage. It looks just like it does in the photos. This bus has the hydrauliclifters (no valve adjustments ever needed!) It was originally Fuel Injected, but it's been converted to a single weberstyle carburetor.
I just recently pulled all the plugs and checked compression and all 4 cylinders and all of them were reading between 120-135. This is the original, factory 2000cc (2.0L) engine with hydraulic lifters.
I have 90+ Photos in the link below and a video of the engine running.
