Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1970
If you want a VW Type 2 that's a true magic bus, then keep looking at the photos of this 1970 Volkswagen Bus. Oh yes, it is certainly custom on the outside. But with a well-done custom interior and VW's hardy drivetrain, this is also a great practical classic. This VW has the certain look that reminds us all why they are an icon. It became a counter-culture symbol as the wide panels were used as a blank canvas to make a statement and be creative. In fact, this one is a hand-painted airbrush mural that has the textures and detail to really let you know there was thought and care that went into the creation. It's such a comprehensive "Diving Miss Dazee" look that even the hub caps are specially painted flowers. The full creation reportedly took six months to complete, and we're not the only ones to admire it. This Bus was the centerfold for the summer 2011 edition of Auto Art Magazine.
Inside, the front has the classic VW charm with bucket seats, the forward-control steering wheel, and classic VDO gauges. And there's some great custom graphics on the dash and steering wheel. And the upgraded PA system with sirens and animal noises is a great custom touch for a vehicle that's already guaranteed to get plenty of attention. As you move further back, you see that there was more custom work to this VW, but it's now in the name of comfort. It feels more like a breakfast nook or a living room with the facing seating, collapsible table, nice carpeting, and custom cabinet. So it's easy to imagine this one as your favorite road tripping machine.
The engine is Volkswagen's famous 1600cc flat-four unit. This air-cooled motor is known for its hardy nature, and this one was even rebuilt. There's also a newer carburetor and ignition components. So you'll love how it fires up with ease. You take full control over it with the three-speed manual transmission. This is a later version of the Type 2 than the 1960s hippies had, and so that also means a better riding suspension that makes it easier to love this peace & love machine.
This is the kind of rolling artwork where people are going to be spending a lot of time admiring the details. The magic bus is ready right now, are you?
