Description for Volvo 240 1983
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDINGI am currently taking hospitalized chemotherapy, o my response to anyquestions orconcerns, s well as processing at conclusion of auction may be interrupted. Please note these facts before you bid. Thanks.
Now about the car:
I am selling my 1983 Volvo 240 DL that came equipped with the optional "police package" for that year. The car was in private family hands in Pennsylvania upuntil about two years ago. Thefamily maintained the car through a Pennsylvania Volvo dealership and that dealershipeventually took the car in on trade. Ipurchased the car from that dealership and have had it ever since. The car was never placed into service as a police vehicle and was driven, apparently not very much, y the original family. When I obtained the car it showed only a little less than 65,000actual miles. I have owned the car for about two years and have putanother 10,000 miles on it since. I have not beensuccessful inincluding the online links to the Volvo 240 police model, ut these can be found on k jet. org.
The car did not come with the vinyl roll-down cover for the rear seat, ut there appears to be 3 small plastic provisions located in the upper rear headliner near the rear glass that may have hadsomething to do with it. There "is" a blue fabric "optional" Volvo 240 armrest that is in the truck that was there whenfirst purchased. This is apparently a rare and sought after option for the 240 series, ut wasnever part of apolice packagethat I can tell.
The GOOD:
The car starts right up and runs very well. Turbo pulls strongwith noacceleration issues. Fun to drive and fast for a 30+ year old 2 series Volvo. Good brakes, ires, uspension is still pretty tightafter allof these years. Wipers work, olice ticket-writing lights work, ash lights work. Gauge cluster works and allreadings show car isoperating well. Odometer and trip odometer work. Currently titled in Virginia with up to date inspection. Never smoked in. Never wrecked, nbsp;but does have one very small dent on the rearquarter panel that was there when I got the car and may have come from a light tap in a parking lot.
The BAD:
Okay, 'll spend asmuch time here as I can and will hopefullycover all "issues" that I'm aware of.
Car has been mostly in thehands of a family member, hodrove the carbutlittle else. Needs washed, axed and detailed. Typical Volvo "glitchy" bulb failureindicator light comes on the dash at times when the brakes areapplied. I have runthisaround the block with Don Allen ServiceCenter in Alexandria, irginia and no bulb failures can be found. Don Allen did most of the service on this car during my ownership. When I obtained the car, he A/C worked great and blew cold. Lately it has not. I haverecharged the system and it blows cold for a week or so and then "nada". The compressor works great, o there appears to be a leak in the system. The car shifts great and thetransmission works just super....BUT....it needs an newshifterassembly (still and ONLY available from Volvo for a cost of about $800 or so). Car will not lock into "P" park, othe opportunity is there for a major catastrophic transmission failure if car is shifted into parkwhile being driven. There are a couple of small tears in the vinyl of the driver's seat. The rust: All "MAJOR" rust issueshave beendocumentedwith the photographs that I have included in the auction. There is some surface rust in some areas that Idid not show. I had two estimates about a year ago for ALL rustrepair with paint and they varied from $1,500-1,800 at the time.
Sowhat we have here is a great little car in need of a home. Had I not fallenill I would be keeping this car to restore and drive. It is fun, dd, nd rare. I'm beginning the bidding at far less than what Ipaid for the car, n amountthat I fell is very fair, iven all thecircumstances. NO warranty as you canimagine, odon't ask. I want to sell this locally, nd have advertised as such, ut would entertain an out-of-statebuyer if wecould come to terms onpickup arrangements. CASH or PAYPAL only. No checks or anything resembling a check from anywhere. No time wasters please, s my time islimited. Thanks for looking and bidding.
