Description for Volvo 240 1983
I will add more interior shots soon. I will also try to take some under the car shots. If you have any other specific picture requests, let me know and I will do my best to take them.I am more than willing to consider offers on this car, so feel free. If you don't want to 100% commit to an offer, you can email it to me first before putting it in as a solid offer.
I selected local pickup but of course there are many auto shippers. I am happy to work with whichever one you choose.
1983 Volvo 244. This classic brick is a head-turner and in very nice condition for its age. I will be as detailed as possible with the description but feel free to email with questions. I am not an expert, so if you are a Volvo enthusiast and see something that is incorrect or that you think would be helpful to add, I would appreciate an email, if you have time.
The 244 is similar to the 240 in many ways. Mostly shared parts. Different taillights and headlights, cool little metal detail at the back of the roof, etc. This car has about 0.5% rust. It is pretty amazing, actually. I would be glad to give you my mechanic’s information here in Minneapolis if you wanted to confirm that. I am separating the information into “Good” and “Not as Good” because honestly, I don’t think there is anything bad or terrible about this car. If you live close enough to Minneapolis and want to see it/drive it, that’s doable. I have no knowledge of shipping cars so we would need to work that out. When I bought this car, I drove it from Milwaukee to Minneapolis without incident.
THE GOOD
Runs very well. It is my daily driver. Always starts on the first try, even in the cold. Spends its days and nights in a covered heated garage.
Very, very little rust. All of it cosmetic. Underside is very clean.
Spotless headliner
Carpet is perfect
Heat is AMAZING. You could practically bake a cake in this car.
Engine is very clean.
A lot of work done in the past year. Here is the list in no particular order:
New hoses and belts.
New brakes including master cylinder, pads and rotors. Brake fluid was also flushed and replaced.
New gas tank and both fuel pumps.
New tires.
New motor and transmission mounts.
New horns (both).
Wiper repair – motor, blades, etc.
New front tie rods.
New radiator cooling fan.
Tune-up oil change as needed.
THE NOT SO GOOD
Some surface rust in places.
Small dent on driver side on corner above headlights.
Scrape on passenger side above back wheel.
Shift rod bushings will need attention.
Reverse lights work but because of the shift rod bushings, lights don’t come on in reverse unless you nudge the stick a little. Mechanic has assured me they will work with the bushings repaired.
Needs AC conversion and repair.
Hood doesn’t stay open because one spring is missing.
Front seats upholstery is worn (but not terrible).
Windshield sprayer does not work. Probably needs motor.
Speedometer doesn’t work. Needs cable.
Odometer doesn’t work (no surprise). It reads 142,523. According to the previous owner, it stopped while he owned it. If his estimation and mine are correct on how much it has been driven since, it would still have less than 170,000 miles on it. Of course, I can’t confirm this.
There is a minor exhaust leak. You don’t notice it in the car. The quote I was given to repair it was $400. And my mechanic is a little pricey.
Could use fluid service (flush transmission fluid, differential, etc.)
