Description for Volvo 240 1988
This classic Swedish beauty runs great and has tight steering. This wagon has been repaired with many parts from a matching color 1993 Volvo 240 that was specifically purchased as parts car. I purchased both from a guy who started to restore this 1988, but didn't have time to finish the project. I bought the two with the intention of saving the "93's engine and transmission for a 1991 245 that is my daily driver with over 300,000 miles.
This 1988 245 DL had some driver-side damage. I replaced the driver-side doors and front fender with those off the "93. The only place where this work is noticeable is the body panel behind the driver-side rear door. The initial repairs (before I owned it) used some paint that wasn't quite a perfect match. The color of this wagon makes it hard to see the difference. It is noticeable on the rocker panels when the driver-side doors are opened (see photos for details.) Apparently the damage was from a tree and there is a spot on the hood that has a dent and paint loss that has not been fixed.
There is no radio in this wagon.
The exhaust has been updated with the "93's that is in exceptional condition.
The interior leather is in good shape, but the driver-side seat has some wear.
The trim, side stripes, and bumpers have just been repainted with trim and bumper paint.
The headlights have been treated for oxidation.
The glove box has one latch broken and the lock (which matches the ignition and rear locking floor board) needs the piece to lock it into the rear of the glove box door. It doesn't appear to need the same as used in the "91-"93
All the lamps and lights work.
The A/C was working until two weeks ago. I am still working on getting it back. I just replaced the rheostat, but the compressor is not engaging. It may be a wiring problem by the dryer, or it may need a new compressor. The blower works great on all level settings and the heater works.
I am also finishing the rear driver-side interior door at this time. It will have the matching manual window and trim as the rest of the this "88 wagon.
The tires are soon ready for replacement. The wheels had a silver ring on the rim and nothing else. Because one ring was missing and the wheels didn't look that great, I removed the rings and replaced them with hubcaps.
The vehicle has been polished, waxed, and detailed and is ready to drive.
