1964 Volvo 1800s - Color Code 46
Up for bid here on ebay is this rare 1964 Volvo 1800s with no reserve. With early bullhorn bumper styling and rare egg crate grille this 1800 is really a gem here in the USA. This 1800s has some newer upgrades that present well while still having it's stock engine and transmission that mechanically still function great. It's original SU dual carbs idle nicely as the car runs and drives good. The overdrives shifts smoothly, as it should, out and in with the toggle switch on the dash - note that the 64's had the overdrive of the dash, not the steering column. The speedometer and tach work well, no bouncing at all. The SU carbs may need final adjustments depending on the elevation you live at. While not being the perfect "show car" this 1800s still has a lot of life left with only 150k miles, and the engine has great compression.
The body on this 1800s is VERY straight with only small dings and wear here and there with no signs of any accidents. The brightwork chrome trim on the sides of the car is almost perfect with no dings or dents, the bumpers could be rechromed someday depending on the vision for the car. The car has had a recent paintjob, while not a perfect job the car still presents well but if you wanted to win any car shows a new paint job would be needed. The rockers did have some rust bubbles which were prepped and filled before paint, there's no signs of major rust on the body of the car now. The body is very solid, not a concourse car but it looks pretty good going down the road.
The glass on this 1800s is in great shape, no cracks or chips, the rubber could use some freshening up around some of them along with the doors. The chrome around the doors and windows is good, no signs of pitting just needs some buffing. The front chrome grille surround is in decent shape but does have 2 dents on the bottom by the bullhorn bumper tops. The rear chrome license plate light does have some pitting, nothing major. Overall the chrome presents well on this 1800s.
The interior on this 1800s is good, a newer carpet kit has been added along with the front seats being brought back to the original red. The front and rear seats have no tears or holes, they are in pretty great shape for being so old. The heater blows warm upon it running, high fan has a bit of a squeal. The headliner is in great shape, no sagging or tears. The rear upholestry covering the back wheel wells and above needs to be replaced, fading and moisture have gotton the best of them, the rear seat is in great shape. The original door panels do show some signs of use with the drives left arm rest have a wear mark, see photos. The orignal dash does have a few cracks, replacement dash pads are available. It is missing it's original radio and antenna, but the original holes for a new one are still stock and original.
The stock engine on the 1800s runs well, it's a bit cold blooded in lower temps but idles great with the manual choke, and takes about 2 minutes to fully warm up. There is a bit of rust in the battery area, nothing major. The stock SU carbs idle right around 900 rpm. It does come with original jack, spare rim with hub cap and jack iron.
The floors on this 1800s are solid with the only rust being on the shorter crossmembers which are replaceable and easily found online, we can ship a new set with the car if you like us to include them. All electrical works great except for the inner dome lights and horn. Lights, highbeams, turn signals, running lights, brake lights and reverse lights work great.
Very fun and solid rare 1800s, will be a great driver or full restoration candidate.
