Description for Willys 1961
1961 Willys with what I believe to be the flip nose off a 1948. The body has had some rust repair on it in the past but it is still very solid. There are some rust bubbles on the bottom of the doors.I was told that the 350 Chevy motor and Turbo 350 transmission are out of a 1979 van. I cant verify that cause the motor is set back 10% and I cant see the casting number. Its supposed to be low mileage. Motor does not smoke. It starts right up and runs good. It has aluminum intake, Qudrajet carb, cool can and Mickey Thompson valve covers. I put a new distributor in it along with new, plugs, wires and harmonic balancer. I had a new engine oil and transmission pan put on it. There are still some leaks. The mechanic said one valve cover on one side is leaking and the transmission dipstick tube is leaking. The exhaust is in good shape but I think it needs a new gasket on one of the collectors. It has Harley fishtail mufflers on it. Sounds really good.
I put new front springs, brake shoes, brake drums, brake hoses, draglink, tie rod ends and rebuild kit for steering link. stops good but brakes need adjusted better. The rear axle is out of 1957 Chevy. It has traction bars and a drive shaft loop. New front shocks.
Leather bucket seats are out of a late model foreign SUV. Vintage Malory gauges. Tach is not hooked up. Electric wiper works. There is a working heater under the dash but I bypassed the hearter hoses. Red carpet but its not that great.
Its runs cool. It has a new aluminum radiator and new hoses.
All lights and turn signals work.
New Towel City pie crust cheater slicks on the rear and new Rocket wheels and tire in front.
It needs a little TLC but I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. Fun to drive and gets lots of attention.
