Description

This is an original 1963 Dodge Dart GT Convertible. The car just came out of the estate of the long time owner. It has a clean title in my name and has been on non operational registration since 1998. This is an original California car and retains its original black and gold California license plates from 1963. The car runs, drives, shifts, steers, and stops. I have driven it on the highway and it drives well for a car that had been in storage for over 25 years. With some more tinkering, this car could be turned into a daily driver as it is. It would also be a great restoration or hot rod project. The possibilities for this 1963 Dodge Dart GT convertible are only limited by your imagination.Engine:The engine is a Dodge 225 slant 6 cylinder which is the largest engine that was available in the 1963 Dodge Dart. It starts quickly and runs smooth with no knocking or smoking. The engine seems to run cool and has lots of power. The engine was recently treated to a new water pump, upper and lower radiator hoses, heater hoses, thermostat, and of course and oil and filter change.Transmission:The transmission is the mythical push button 3 speed automatic. I believe the model number for the transmission is 904. It is controlled by the push buttons and the left side of the dash. The fluid is bright red .The transmission shifts into all gears smoothly with no slipping or strange noises.Body:The body on this Dart is in good condition overall. There are no major dents. I don't see any evidence of prior accident damage. There is surface rust but no major rot on the exterior body panels that I can detect. The trim appears to be all intact less some emblems and one piece of the convertible top well trim. The glass is all clean and clear with no chips or cracks and some light scratching. The bumpers look straight overall with aged chrome as shown. With some cleaning, this Dart would look great with some patina as is. It would also be a great foundation to take to the next level.Interior,The interior appears to be complete less the cigarette lighter and is in need of restoration as shown.Trunk:The trunk is in good condition with no major rust or damage. The original spare and jack as intact.Undercarriage:The undercarriage of this car looks nice overall. The suspension looks all original and intact. The gas tank, rear end, transmission, and steering all look original and undistrubed. The floors under the passenger compartments have corrosion and should be replaced. I imagine the carpet got wet at some point and corroded the floors. The rockers and frame components look to be in good condition.Wheels/Tires/Brakes:The wheels are the original Mopar 13 inch steel units with original full wheel covers. The tires are new whitewalls that were just installed in the last few weeks. The brakes were inspected and had all soft lines replaced. A new master cylinder was also installed before new fluid was bled through the system.Convertible top:The convertible top frame is intact and goes up and down with some resistance. The top was originally power. The rams were disconnected when found and I have no investigated further. The power top pump does pump when the switch is moved to up or down. The convertible top itself is torn up and needs to be replaced.Overall:This 1963 Dodge Dart GT Convertible has spent its entire life in California. After being stored since 1998, it was recently pulled out of mothballs and now runs, drives, stops, and steers. This would be a great starting point for a weekend cruiser, daily driver, restoration, or hod rod project.
