Description
For sale is a tough 1978 Ford F150 4x4. The truck had been completely gone through and was put together in April of 2013. The badging is the only thing that is half ton. The front end is an 8 lug Dana 44 with an ARB locker installed. The rear end is a Sterling 10. 25 rear end out of a 90's F-250 that also has an ARB locker installed. Yes. it goes where you point it! The ARB compressor is located under the hood and is actuated by ARB switches. That ARB switch cluster also activates and deactivates one or both lockers depending on your traction needs. The old 351/400 was removed and placed in the scrap iron pile where it belongs. In it's place we put a real power plant in. 390 4V! I have since put a two barrel adapter on the manifold and placed a Motorcraft 2150. It runs very well and does not cut out at angles like the Edelbrock did. I was going to save up my pennies and put a truck avenger on it but never got to it. The 390 has headers and sounds as commanding as it looks. I have entered a couple of mud bogs with this truck and it wound up being the only truck to make it through with the 37 inch Toyos digging. The transmission is a New Process 435 that is connected to the engine by a LUK clutch (new). The flywheel was turned prior to installation. Behind the transmission is the New Process 205 gear to gear transfer case. The case shifts smooth and works fantastic!As you can tell. there is a ton of money in this truck and I have priced it fair. I just really don't use it enough to justify it and could use the money for another project. There is rust on cab corners. rear wheel well. and floorboard. It is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but always gets thumbs up and comments. A perfect body is not what I wanted for what this truck was built for. The hubs are Warn Gold hubs. The tailgate is not the original but is age correct and the latch even works. Only difference is the paint. (orange)The distributor is a MSD single wire. There was a short in the wiring between the switch and solenoid so we wired in a push button switch. The key must still be in the ignition to activate the starter. This is a no reserve auction with the price starting just north of the ARB system. The truck is built right and starts during the hottest summer days or the coldest winter days. Started fine at -15 this last winter. Transportation is the buyers responsibility. I would bring a trailer or have a transport company move the truck. It will drive where ever you want to go but with the big tires and the headers. you would probably go nuts after a few hundred miles. I never put the steering stabilizer on as it was just another thing to get caught up on the trail/rocks but one goes with the truck. I have driven it from Cascade to Boise several times and it is road worthy but kinda loud. Fuel tank needs a new sending unit bubble as it fills with fuel and sinks to the empty position. Truck is located in zip code 83611. This truck is very fun to drive and is nothing short of amazing at what it can go through or over. If you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. If you are in the area and would like to see/drive it I will gladly make that happen. Key words; mud truck. mud bogger. rock crawler. x4. four wheel drive. lifted. lockers. big block. nbsp;
