Description
This 1968 Mercury Montego MX is an original vehicle with the previous owners registration and mileage of 116048. The car is not regularly driven and needs work such as an engine rebuild or swap due to a failed oil pump starving the engine of oil. It has been owned by the current owner for three years and is mostly complete.
Vehicle Details
This is a 1968 Mercury Montego MX 2 door hardtop. I bought this car a few years ago with a faulty oil pump which caused the engine to run low on oil in some areas and squeal in the lower end when it ran. The car doesn’t turn over or crank anymore, assume you will need to rebuild the engine or swap it. I was able to drive it onto the trailer when I picked it up and drove it off, so the transmission does work. The car is mostly original and complete minus some things like chrome trim, emblems and some of the interior was modified with carbon fiber layouts but they weren’t very good at the details. The dashboard has a cover and the headliner needs some attention as well as the rear deck lid where the speakers go. The last NY registration was done 4/5/2020 and expired 4/6/2022.
At the time of purchase, I got ahead of myself and took on a lot of project cars at once but haven’t gotten to them all. I don’t need to sell this car but I figured since I see no other listings for sale on eBay and none sold recently, someone out there might be looking for one. I bought this because the floors ok, the frame is mostly good, it ran and yard drove and comes with the previous owner’s registration so you can register and or title it. The frame at the front near the bumper will need attention and some areas of the floor.
This was purchased from Jamaica Queens around the time of the pandemic and has just been moved in and out of my garage and yard. This car will be listed once, maybe twice and if it fails to sell I will keep it and get it running as planned. I just don’t want to see a solid car sit longer than it needs to and would prefer it to be back on the road sooner than later.
The interior looks like someone redid the upholstery at one time. It’s pretty good but needs some work in some areas, please refer to the pictures. Someone painted the car in the combination it is now and changed the rims and tires to aftermarket chrome, the tires should be replaced but have held air all of these years. The front windshield has a crack down the middle, the hood has a kink on the passenger side and the rear window has some rust around the metal edges. The trunk looks pretty good and underneath the car looks ok. I took pictures of the floors, frame rails, under the engine and transmission so you can see as much as possible. I removed the fan and pulley and those are in the trunk, there is no battery.
I have the bill of sale and registration from the previous owner from New York State. You will need a winch to get this on your trailer because it doesn’t start or run and if you are looking to rebuild the engine, you shouldn’t start it again. Please check all of the pictures, I put a good amount so you can see all angles of the car. I do have a video of when I trailered the car home on a uhaul car hauler and they don’t have winches, it drove onto the trailer. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
A deposit of $250 is due within 24 hours by PayPal to confirm that you’re serious about buying the car. The balance needs to be paid in CASH and the car picked up within 7 days of the listing ending. This is sold as is with no warranties. I removed the headlights because the previous owner had aftermarket headlights in which are in the trunk. The trunk has some extra parts that I will include and it will come with keys for the ignition and trunk lock which both work. This car was registered, insured and driven until the oil pump failed.
The deposit is not refundable so please ask any questions before hitting buy it now. I do have an engine from a 1973 Mustang convertible still coupled to the OEM transmission that I will be listing soon. That car is too rusty to restore but the engine and transmission work well. So if you need a replacement, that’s an option which will be in a separate listing.
