Description for AMC Concord Touring Wagon 1978
First, let me say that this car may be the ONLY surviving example of one of American Motors Corporation's very limited production one year only vehicles. I have searched the internet for three years while I have owned this beauty and have not seen another one. I purchased the used Guici esqe' interior parts from a donor car in Maryland (Thanks John Cox) that was headed to the crusher. This interior was not offered on any other AMC vehicle. According to three members of The AMC Forum, three other examples were either parted out or crushed. This car in my opinion, should be in a museum for others to see and enjoy. It IS that special & unique.The car is all original except for the door pull straps (4 nice used door pull straps are included along with one nos end cap, the radio, (a correct AMC AM/FM radio is included), a new tan headliner, the drivers outside remote mirror was replaced with a manual mirror. There is NO pitting on either mirror and the Magnum wheels .The car originally had painted double 1/8" stripes and accents. I have pictures of the original stripes that were sanded off the car. Additional original seat material and 4 really nice interior door trim panels with un-cut speaker holes is included. An extra "Touring Wagon" emblem is also included.
I have a big stack of repair receipts from six previous owners going back to 1990. The history of the car prior to 1990 is unknown but it was obviously well cared for and only driven 80K miles in the first 12 years since the car was new. The attached repair receipt photos document that the current mileage is accurate.
Many NOS and very good used parts were used in the 3 year body, interior and engine compartment restoration. The car is equipped with what I believe to be the original 304 V8 2bbl engine with matching VIN and valve cover tag. All new hoses, belts & filters were installed as well as over 60 hours alone removing engine parts and refinishing them.
The previous owner removed the original Torque Command 998 Auto Transmission and installed a 904 that slips until it warms up & has a drip from what I believe is the front seal. I am including an additional 904 & torque converter that I was told were removed from a running 77 AMC Hornet AMX. The engine also has the proverbial drip from the rear main seal.
This 111,074 mile personal mid-size touring wagon was born with:
Power Steering (I was told during a recent front suspension alignment that the car has a power steering pull) (A new Reman GM Type box is around $125.00) The front suspension has a firm feel and drives smooth with newer shocks installed by a previous owner. You just have to lightly hold the steering wheel to the left. I am a Certified Automobile Damage & Value Appraiser and there is no evidence of any prior unibody damage. The alignment tech said all the steering components are tight.

Interior Light Group (ALL interior & exterior lightning & switches work except for the right turn signal arrow bulb) Even the liftgate open switch works and turns on the interior lamps.
14" steel wheels & body color hubcaps (MIA) (Currently installed AMC Magnum wheels, center caps & trim rings) (see the attached photo from 1990 which shows 2 of the correct wheel covers installed) I can/will keep the Magnums and sell the car with roller wheels/tires and deduct $500 from the final selling price.
Color keyed six piece 2" tri-colored body side moldings (currently being restored & then installed)
All body panels are original to the car except the left fender that was dented in a minor scuff with a garage? by a previous owner. When I bought the car a rust free OE fender was included. NOS LF & RR stainless wheel opening moldings were installed and the other two are dent free. Four new outer door sweeps were installed. The inner sweeps are worn a little but the glass is air tight. The new single stage factory G7 Alpine White was sprayed in Aug/Sep 2015. A crease on the RF door was repaired as well as several minor dents & dings. When I bought the car it was wearing its original paint. There were a few small rust thru areas around the rear windows under the moldings that have been repaired. ALL trim, bumpers, lights, hood, lift gate and left fender were removed and painted off the car. ALL jambs were also repainted. The LR Door hinge stay open spring is missing and a NOS hinge assy is included.
The electrical system is all original and not modified except for the aftermarket stereo install and speaker wiring repair. The clock works intermittently. Another un-tested used clock is included.
Mechanically the car starts, runs & drives like a newer car. The only mechanical repair that I am aware of was completed, was a valve job in 1990 at approximately 80k miles and a new alternator at 81K in 1991 that are documented by receipts. When I pulled the valve covers there was some sludge that I cleaned and added a bottle of engine reconditioner during a recent oil change. There is minimal smoke at start-up and only occasional lifter tic. A newer muffler was installed in the 90's and there are no leaks. The original Catalytic Converters is still installed.
There are probably more details about this special car that I am forgetting at the present time. I will be happy to do a walk-around with the phone and explain everything that was accomplished during the restoration and the small things that the car still needs. I require a non refundable $500 deposit and the remainder of the payment by certified bank check is due at delivery. Remember this is a used car that is 38 years old and sold with no warranty either written on implied. I have honestly described this special car in detail so the buyer knows exactly what he/she is getting. This could be the best Classic Grocery Getter or SoccerMom Wagon on the planet. Three of the last six owners were women. : ) This car gets more attention than my award wining 1970 AMX.
