Description for Austin Healey 3000 1964
This 1964 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 Mk III was built in December 1963 and was sold new by Nuffield Exports in San Francisco, California. The car reportedly spent most of its life in Nevada, where it was found and refurbished by Healey specialist Kurt Tanner prior to acquisition in 2008. The car has been repainted in the original Colorado Red over black leather upholstery, and it is fitted with a very rare factory removable hardtop. The car is equipped with a 2.9-liter inline-six, a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, chrome wire wheels, a heater, and an adjustable steering column. This Austin-Healey is now offered in Los Angeles with records, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Nevada title.
The bodywork was refinished in its original Colorado Red by Kurt Tanner more than 10 years ago, and the work aimed to minimize disruption of the original bodywork and panel gaps. Exterior chrome trim was redone, and the car is equipped with an optional laminated glass windshield. There are a couple very minor fissures in the removable hardtop's finish near the badges just aft of the side windows.
The 15″ wire wheels feature a chrome finish and are fitted with BFGoodrich Touring T/A tires measuring 175/80. Braking is handled by front discs and rear drums, and a black convertible top and black top boot are included.
The interior is upholstered in black leather with white piping matched by black carpeting and fitted rubber mats. The car is equipped with an optional adjustable steering column, a factory banjo-style steering wheel, and a heater.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer. The five-digit odometer shows 65k miles.
The 2.9L inline-six features dual SU carburetors and was factory rated at 150 horsepower. The engine number plate is absent, although the engine appears to be the correct Phase 1 motor. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission with optional electrically actuated overdrive. Most recent service included a new fuel-level sender and an oil and filter change.
The underside was repainted but not fully refurbished by Mr. Tanner. Small dents are shown in the oil pan and on the left-side frame rail, and scrapes are noted on the exhaust system.
Pictured alongside the included hardbound driver's handbook, the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate shows the engine, transmission, body, and rear-end numbers as well as the car's original colors and options.
My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The car is sold with no warranty. You are buying a used car. Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know. I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to describe accurately the shape of the car, but keep in mind it is impossible to discuss every detail of a car for better or worse. If ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them. Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use. That means please do not expect a showroom brand new car. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a car that however is in extremely good condition. Please only bid if you intend to buy. If you would like to have an Ebay 3rd party mechanic service check out the car I MORE than welcome it. Please have the car checked out before bidding and not after, if you intend to use that service. And please, if you would like to utilize this service, contact me with more than a couple days left in the auction so we can arrange schedules. Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying. Buying over the internet can be scary sometimes! I get it, because I am an enthusiast too!! For that very reason, I am more than happy to answer every and any question you may so you know 100% what you are buying. But, please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase! It is impossible to list every pro and con of a car, I am not an inspection service, and my description does not replace one! It is your responsibility as a buyer to do your due diligence and inspect the car. All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech!
Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!
