1961 AUSTIN-HEALEY 3000 MK1 BT-7 2+2 ROADSTER. OLDE ENGLISH WHITE, RED LEATHER TRIM, BLACK TOP AND TONNEAU COVER, 60-SPOKE STAINLESS WIRE WHEELS, 4-SPEED, HEATER, FIXED STEERING WHEEL, MATCHING NUMBERS.
Recently restored by KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS this is a freshly and exquisitely restored Austin-Healey 6-cylinder roadster to the highest standards. This car was purchased by Kurt Tanner from the second owner, in need of restoration. The car has a believed original mileage of only 50, 761. This car was first owned by the seller's (seller to Kurt Tanner) next door neighbor who purchased the car new. These are three-owner documented miles. The car was driven from new in 1961 to about 1967, when it was stored in a two-car garage needing some carburetor work. It was later acquired and in 1992 became their project car for restoration that was never completed.
This exceptional 3000 has just completed a very extensive and exhaustive restoration by marque specialist "KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS". It is correctly finished in it's Olde English White with Red Trim color scheme. The car has been restored per BMIHT certificate (with the addition of chrome/stainless wire wheels) including all the options listed above in the title. All detailing and finishes are in accordance with Austin-Healey Club Gold Concours standards, and the finest materials have been used.
This car was completely disassembled/ stripped down to a bare rolling chassis with only the front and rear shrouds still attached. The chassis was then power-washed with a 3500psi steam cleaner. All exterior body panels were carefully hand-stripped to bare metal using aircraft stripper, then "dusted" with shotblasting to remove any corrosion. At that point, any sheetmetal repairs were made. The chassis was then seam-sealed, primed, and painted along with the backs of all the body panels. The body parts were then refitted to the car and carefully gapped. Bodywork and paint was then carried out to show standards, with exceptional results. The car displays factory-correct panel fit and shut lines.
Most all of the original chromework was replated and saved using very little reproduction parts. The original aluminum cockpit moldings were stripped, polished, and correctly re-anodized. A fresh rubber kit was installed. The car boasts a new Moss Motors interior trim kit, carpet and underlay kit, Armacord trunk kit, door seals, leather trimmed seats with new foam, steering wheel, fitted lap belts, and windshield. A new and correct black Everflex top and matching tonneau has been fitted, along with the original set of restored sidecurtains in a new bag.
Mechanically, the car could not be in better condition. The original, low-mileage engine was started up and ran for an hour before being removed from the car. The engine and transmission exhibit perfect behavior for such a low-mileage car . It was inspected along with the gearbox, re-sealed, cleaned, painted and detailed. A new clutch disc was fitted just as a precaution. The carburetor set was rebuilt. A new gas tank, engine and transmission mounts, fan belt, battery, ignition set, oil and filter, cooling hoses, and S.U. pump were installed. The front and rear suspension was inspected for wear, cleaned, detailed, and regreased. The braking system and clutch hydraulics were completely rebuilt including new master cylinders and slave cylinder, new rear cylinders, rebuilt front calipers with new pistons, new steel brake lines installed with new flexy hoses, new front pads and rear shoes. The car was treated to a brand new set of correct (5) 60-spoke, 15-inch x 4 1/2 stainless steel, tubeless wire wheels fitted and balanced with (5) new 165x15 quality radial tires.
Other restoration details include a new cotton cloth wiring harness, restored dashboard fittings, new air vent heater hoses, new mild steel exhaust system and hangers with an NOS muffler, cadmium-replated original hardware, and all appropriate stickers and decals. This car includes a matching 5th tire and spare rim, correct Everflex top and tonneau cover, restored original sidescreen set with bag, reprint of the owner's handbook, new knock off hammer, and a BMIHT certificate attesting to the car's authenticity.
