Description for Austin Healey 3000 1967
Offered for sale is an absolutely stunning entirely numbers matching rust-free final year 1967 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 finished in perpetually tasteful and desirable British Racing Green over a gorgeous recently reupholstered Biscuit leather with green piping and green carpets. The car comes with its British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate (confirming its original color and numbers matching status) as well as receipts totaling more than $17000 in recent mechanical service performed largely by marque experts British Automotive Ltd. of Seattle WA as well as nearly $8000 in upholstery performed by Heritage Upholstery of Blaine WA. This work was all commissioned roughly two years ago by the car’s third owner a Seattle businessman who kept the Healey at his vacation home in Palm Springs until we acquired it earlier this year.
This is easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing examples we’ve come across in a while. The car’s finish is in excellent condition deep lustrous and marred only by exceedingly minor imperfections none of which are significant enough to appear in any of the pictures. The body is free of any dings or rust the doors open and close properly with excellent panel fits and gaps and the car’s brightwork is in flawless condition. The knock-off chrome wire wheels are in great shape also true of all of the car’s glass and rubber.
The professionally reupholstered interior is impeccable the leather seats door cards interior panels dash and carpet kit seemingly untouched since their installation two years ago. The car’s wood dash inserts are absolutely gorgeous the three-pronged steering wheel is free of any cracks and all of the dash’s instruments and switches work as they should. The canvas soft top is equally clean as is the canvas boot cover and full canvas tonneau both barely used. The owner’s manual shop manual original spare wheel and tire and all of the changing tools are all included housed in a clean trunk compartment with a new trunk lining. Lastly the car’s undercarriage is entirely solid straight and free of corrosion.
Considering the comprehensive mechanical sorting that occurred it’s no surprise that the car is in superior mechanical condition. Starting without any hesitation or smoke the original numbers matching engine idles consistently and pulls with grin-inducing BJ8 force. Compression is strong and even across all cylinders and the car shows absolutely no proclivity for overheating. The transmission shifts smoothly through each of its gears without any grinding or slipping overdrive works flawlessly and the car drives and brakes straight handling nimbly. It’s a joy to drive a visceral rush both roaring through the canyons and cruising down the highway. Service records for all of the work performed will of course accompany the sale.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire a wonderful appreciating classic with all the right things going for it: corrosion-free numbers matching mechanically strong and beautifully finished in a striking color combination. With “Big Healey” auction results routinely fetching sales prices nearing and often surpassing six figures they represent a unique segment of the classic car market: highly collectible with good appreciation potential but with strong #2 drivers still priced somewhat accessibly so that you can actually enjoy driving them. And that’s a good thing because they are far too fun from behind the wheel to relegate them to garages or trailers on the way to shows. This car is no exception undoubtedly providing its next owner with countless enjoyable driving experiences in an asset that will only increase in value over time.We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to answer any questions so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic rotating collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Healey (if the price is right of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling but we’re enthusiasts not experts and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.
For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.
