If you're checking out this car you're probably already familiar with the BMW e34 touring wagon. if not you can find all the specs for this car online, so with that in mind I’m just going to share with you some observations based on my ownership.
This car was clearly engineered for drivers. Let’s start with the cockpit. This car features a telescopic steering wheel so anyone from Shaquille O'Neal to a little old grandma will be comfortable driving this car. Both front seats are substantial and move effortlessly up, down, forward, backward, swivel, and tilt with the push of a button. Even the headrest goes up and down with an electronic switch. If you're cold both of the seats have two heating modes. The cluster gauges are clear and easy to use and the on-board computer offers more detailed information like temperature, date, time, distance, etc. In a nutshell driving this car feels very purpose-built and intuitive.
If you're over 6' you know what it's like trying to fit in a lot of modern “family” style cars comfortably.
Not to mention the instrument panel on many modern/family cars are downright confusing. This era BMW used simple, aeronautic style gauges.
Your passengers will appreciate the full black leather seats, power windows, easy access 4-door entry, and the fact they're not riding in a lackluster Ford Focus or dorky Plymouth (sorry if you own one of these, I’m sure these are fine cars but after driving this you will not go back). Perhap the single coolest attribute of this car is the double sunroof which can open for the front seats, split between both the front and rear, or just for the rear passengers. Even cruising on the freeway it’s super quiet and opens up the world around without the troubles of a convertible. It works perfectly with no leaks or issues. Now that's luxury.
It has an added Yakima roof rack for hauling bikes, kayaks, skis, surfboards or whatever else on top of your car. I think it looks pretty cool and usually just put stuff in the back because it’s so spacious and convenient. If you don’t want it, I’ll refund you $100 off the auction price. The rear seats fold down in a 40-60 split which make this ideal for Costco trips or picking up Craigslist junk and the subsequent trip a few months later to donate said junk to the Goodwill when your girlfriend realizes refurbishing a $20 Ikea dresser really isn’t worth the effort. Seriously, this will fit a lot of stuff in the back including several bikes, dozens of boxes, or whatever else you please.
The 2.5L 6-cylinder engine runs strong and does a great job of passing those types that merges onto the freeway at 40mph. City driving is equally great and the automatic transmission makes navigating through traffic and parking on hills a breeze. I’ve taken this car on several road trips and it’s super fun with a group of friends. No modifications or upgrades, all stock with BMW parts. It has been regularly maintained and will serve it's new owner for many, many decades to come. The tires are only about a year old and the brakes were just done. The oil was just changed and won't need done for another 2500 miles. No warning lights on the dash or issues with the gauges.
Even if you just parked this thing as lawn art you can't go wrong. The red BMW-brillantrot paint has some of the typical fading but still looks absolutely gorgeous. People compliment the looks of this wagon all the time: Girls think it's a sports car because it's red, people that know BMWs appreciate the car, and every so often some idiot will stare at the hood emblem and ask if it's a Jaguar, a BMW, or a custom car made for Saudi Arabian royalty. You would be foolish to do so, but for $30 (cost of the roundel) I will personally install a brand new BMW emblem on the hood and get it back to the factory BMW look.
It's never been smoked inside, never had pets inside, always garage kept. This is a Seattle car with zero rust and the same owner for 23 years.
