1976 BMW 2002 The BMW 2002 is the classic "sports sedan" that put BMW on the map. Easy and straight forward with a reliable. well engineered design. It doesn't take much to have this 40 year old car be a reliable daily driver. From Hemmings: "BMW's 2002 is one of those cars that you just can't get enough of. " I've owned this car since 2007 when I purchased it in San Jose California. The car was originally sold in California and was never registered out of the state until I moved in 2012. This car specifically is a beautiful example of what a classic 2002 represents. style and performance. It has years of work and love put into it to get it to this point. The car has new custom paint that shows beautifully. A gorgeous new interior from new seats. new back bench. new headliner (in a beautiful light gray). new trunk carpet liner and new door panels. As well a contrasting salt and pepper custom carpet kit. This 02 has a new Weber 32/36 Dual Barrel Carb. a new Bosch starter. updated tail lights. new battery. new fuel lines. rebuilt shifter linkage with a new clutch master/slave cylinder and new windshield seals (front/back) It also has an updated ITG air filer setup (as well as the original air filter if you want to convert it back). Engine is strong with no smoke. strong acceleration. and is powerful even running cold. Transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding. This is a car that is well balanced and has mechanically been well maintained. Freeway use is unreal with 70-80 MPH feeling smooth. The car has a custom exhaust system that provides a nice throaty sound in acceleration when the car is pushed. Since this was an original California car. all of the needed SMOG equipment has been saved. This is a 76 that will pass SMOG in California. Being an original California car. it's relatively rust free. I've included pics of the under carriage/wheel wells to show how clean it is. I have one small rust pocket on the door (dime sized) but it's surface level only and has not progressed. The only outstanding issue I have with the car is the sunroof has a plastic clip that allows it to open and shut (see pic) This clip needs to be replaced so the sunroof can operate properly. It's straight forward to replace. The sunroof is currently closed and drainage works well so shipping it or leaving it outside will not be an issue. Paint has a slight discoloration on the right edge of the hood. I'm knit picking but better to be straight forward. You should be able to gauge some level of how this car sounds too once reved up. In short this car is nothing but fun. It's fun to work on and fun to driveExtras. I have 4 BMW repair and restoration books. I also have an original "dealership only" repair manual. I have an extra set of tail lights. original air filter housing. etc. The car will also come with a fitted car cover.
