Description for Buick Other 1951
Up for sale is my 1951 Buick Model 56s Super Rivera Hardtop Convertible. This is one of those oldies but goodies that were built back when they made cars to last. This Buick is an excellent example of the "Classic Cars of the 1950's". It was then General Motors created a new design for all their new automobiles starting in 1950... They were called "Hardtop Convertibles" meaning the coupes were designed to create the look of a convertible by totally removing the "side door posts" between the front passenger compartment and the rear passenger compartment. Many collectors today prefer the sporty "Hardtop" models over the older style "two-door" and "four-door" sedans. This Buick itself is a rare find. As far as I can determine, it's original owner lived in the Northern California/Arizona area so this car is fairly "rust free". The car's restoration is close to being completed as it has had a lot of improvements: New Wide Whitewall tires, Brakes, Front suspension, Shocks & Exhaust, all new upholstery plus a recent partial engine rebuild, likely performed because the car may have sat in storage for a long time- (I have papers) The original owner put only 65,000 miles on it as shown on the speedometer and I believe this mileage to be correct as the car starts, runs and drives very well. The "Dynaflow" transmission also works well. All original glass is in very good condition including the rare 3-piece wrap-around rear window... no chips or breakage. See it in the pictures shown. Normally I would continue restoring the car but, due to my age and health, I am selling the car as is/where is, with no warranty whatsoever. If the new owner lives in California or Nevada, I may be able to assist in transporting the car by locating a local transport for you at a reasonable price.
The car retains it's original paint color (Green with White top) and has never been repainted but does show some areas where the primer shows through the paint... but no signs of any rust, top or bottom. Sometime in it's past, an outside sun visor was added including a unique way to utilize the car's radio antenna. I had considered re-painting the car in its original colors but if the new owner wanted to participate in a car show that offers what they call a "Preservation Award", and the car still has it's original color scheme, (not repainted) the car can be considered for a Trophy! No matter how it looks otherwise.
Although this car is exceptional as is, it does still have a few flaws... but they are minimal compared overall... The side windows need new rubber weather stripping... which are available on the Internet. The radio is not working and one of the knobs falls off... but I have the knob. I've never tried to use the twin spotlights so I don't know it they work or not. The stainless steel trim is all in pretty good condition but may need some extra care... but to my knowledge, it's all there. The front and rear bumpers have some small scratches in them, and could be candidates for re-chroming. Also, the car has no indication that it was ever in an accident as it drives true and straight. The door locking mechanism on the drivers side also needs attention. The passenger door sags a bit when opening but I am told that is an easy fix. I am setting a starting price for the car at $0.99 with a reasonable reserve to protect my interest. We will see where it goes from there. I have pretty much summed up everything I know about the car but if you have additional questions... please contact me through eBay and I'll do my best to answer you in a timely manner. I offer good luck to all my bidders and a hearty thanks!
