Featuring beautifully streamlined body styling, the 1940 Buicks also did away with old-fashioned running boards for a fresh, modern look. This splendid classic Buick was under the long-term care of the prior owner until August 2019. He purchased it in September 1983 from a gentleman in Muncie, Indiana and then drove it all the way home cross-country to Salt Lake City, Utah without issue. Following some enjoyable touring, the vehicle received a total body-off restoration, with the work completed to concours level. Finished in Sequoia Cream, an original Buick color choice, the Super's interior was also fully restored and trimmed in red leather upholstery and complemented by correct engine-turned accent panels for the glove box door and instrument surround, plus handsomely restored wood grain interior trim. Following restoration, this wonderful Buick earned the Golden Award of Excellence from the Veteran Motor Car Club of America (VMCCA) at its first and only post-restoration show appearance. While only sparingly toured to preserve its excellence, the Buick was nonetheless enjoyed by the prior owner on a long-range tour from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles and back, via Las Vegas, Reno, Lake Tahoe, San Simeon, Los Angeles and Long Beach. Carefully preserved and remaining highly attractive throughout, the Buick features a new canvas convertible top and benefits from wet sanding of the striking Sequoia Cream paint finish, professional detailing, and further sorting performed at The Last Detail. A file containing restoration invoices and receipts is included with the sale of rare and handsome 1940 Buick Model 51C Convertible Phaeton. A recent weekend driving experience confirms it is a strong-running and very enjoyable vehicle, in proper running order, well-suited to any collector looking for a beautiful, immediate prewar American classic vehicle to show, tour and enjoy.
