Description for Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 1957

Now THIS is an awesome find! Quite likely the lowest-priced Chevy you could buy in 1957 this 150 4-door sedan is an incredible 30000-mile (which appear to be actual) survivor with a single repaint and still sporting its original six-cylinder engine. In a world filled with fake Bel Airs and V8 conversions this car's wonderful simplicity will take you back to another era and remind you that even the low-priced cars were pretty darned cool. Now the remarkable thing is that this car survived at all. Not that it isn't worthy but how is it possible that somewhere along the line an enterprising fellow failed to get his hands on it and throw a small block V8 inside? It retains the same no-frills look it had on the showroom floor resplendent in an Onyx Black repaint from several years ago. Basic trim nice panel fit thanks to the low mileage and an honest look that better represents the 1950s than any over-dressed Bel Air ever did. The repaint is holding up well and while it's not show-quality it seems to suit this plain-Jane sedan just fine. Much of the trim seems original and thanks to a lifetime of being protected in a garage and driven sparingly it's astoundingly good. You'll have to recalibrate your shiny sensors for the quality of OEM chrome in 1957 but that's exactly how it was delivered when new. And the distinct lack of add-ons and detailing beyond the heavy chrome grille and bumpers makes this a very distinctive car indeed. The black and silver interior is pure 1957 funky and again exactly how the car was delivered new. It's basic yes but the stylists ensured that even the entry-level buyers got something special for their hard-earned dollars. The door panels have a great look that didn't have to be this ornate and the low-mileage seats are still quite comfortable. Black floor coverings anchor the otherwise bright and airy interior and the back seat looks like it's hardly been used. The instrument panel simple steering wheel and 3-on-the-tree shifter are all standard equipment although it's nice to see that at least the original buyer splurged for an AM radio. Open the trunk and you'll find an original rubber mat correct jack assembly and a full-sized spare that might be this car's original it's kind of hard to say. It's a mistake to underestimate the 235 cubic inch inline-six under the hood of this handsome 4-door. Smooth and torquey it was a mainstay of Chevrolet vehicles for decades and moves the relatively lightweight 150 around easily. It looks right with corporate blue paint on the engine itself and a big old-school oil bath air cleaner on the single downdraft carb. It starts easily with a nice 6-cylinder grumble from the exhaust system and idles so smoothly that you're almost tempted to hit the key again. The 3-speed manual transmission shifts easily and it's happy cruising at 60 MPH on the highway. The undercarriage is completely original save for a recent muffler and routine maintenance items and you can easily see that the mileage claims are legit. Simple black wheels with dog-dish hubcaps and 215/75/14 blackwall radials complete the bare-bones look.Take this car to any show with more than a few '57s and see where the crowd forms. Everyone's already been there done that with the bright shiny V8 Bel Airs but this honest authentic sedan is a breath of fresh air. Call today!
