Description for Chevrolet El Camino 1973
Up for sale is a 1973 Chevy El Camino in original condition from what I can tell. Built at the old former GM plant in Fremont. Ca. located at the Southern end of the San Francisco bay area now home to Tesla motor cars. The previous owner said a 90 year old man owned the car for many years before his passing and was probably the original owner. The car sat for some time in the open elements and was not driven. Previous owner got the car registration up to date. along with getting it roadworthy which it is. There is a parking sticker in the lower drivers side of the windshield stating "ONIZUKA AB. meaning Air Base. located at the Moffett field Air-base in Sunnyvale. Ca. Onizuka was a highly classified Government project known as the Blue cube. which I remember as a kid in the 60's-90's. The original owner was probably an employee at this location for many years and the car has been in the bay area possibly since new. This is all speculation if you will. Back to the vehicle. Has the "H" code 350 V-8. with the 2V carb and single exhaust. A 350 Turbo trans with an unknown rear-end ratio probably standard. Car is showing 52K. but it is more like 152K. Previous owner said the motor was re-built many years ago and has about 20K according to a friend of the owner who owned it for years. The car runs excellent. shifts fine and stops good. The original color I believe is still on the car. Gold Green. paint code 46. Car has an original factory tach. not working. Air-Cond either needing a charge or compressor. tires are good with original hubcaps. Car has a clear title with registration good thru May 2015 and has the original Blue/Yellow plates. The interior is all original but needs some big time help. The body of the car is fair to good. There is surface rust. again. a 42-year old car left out in the elements. The front floor boards are showing some rot and will eventually need attention. or just drive as is. There is some minor rust in the lower front passenger fender. behind the passenger door lower area and on the right rear quarter panel. all repairable. The body has the basic small dings/dents here and there but not too bad at all. Front and rear bumpers are OK and have a few small dents. Glass is all good with no cracks. however. the drivers window has some sort of a stain. Both windows roll up and down with no problem. Lights and signals all work. gas gauge. wipers. heater/defogger. radio and speedo. Temp and Amp gauge do not as well as a few dash lights. Drove the car over 30 miles at freeway speeds with no problems. Drivers door latch either needs a latch spring or a good adjustment but does close. Car has the original spare jack behind the passenger seat area. Emergency brake engages but does not hold. A trailer hitch was added probably many years ago along with the bed cover. This model year was not as popular as previous years but is original and un-butchered. I've place a very low reserve for a very good running vehicle. ! accept Paypal for a non-refundable deposit of $500. 00. and must be received within 24 hours at the close of auction.
