Description for Chevrolet Corvette 1962

You are bidding on a stunning red 1962 327/300 HP Chevrolet Corvette. Red/white top/black interior, two-top car. This is a private owner sale of a California car I’ve owned for 22 years. In that time, I’ve chased down virtually all of the small problems associated with an older classic car, and meticulously maintained it. It is now an honest, no excuses, beautiful driver that I use frequently and reliably. In fact, I just had it out for a >150 mile trip in 90 degree+ weather and it performed flawlessly. You can buy this car and just drive it. The reason I’m selling it that is similar to another car that I have, and the wife won’t let me buy another car until I sell one.

The Hagerty valuation for a car of this condition with these options is $66,840 (Good/#3 condition 300 HP car $56,900, plus 10% for 4-speed, plus $4,250 for hard-top). Since the transmission isn’t numbers matching and the paint isn’t perfect. I’m willing to let it go for a discount to this value.

Check my feedback and buy with confidence. This car is sold As-Is. Deposit of $1,000 required within 24 hours of auction close, and full payment required within 72 hours of auction close. Buyer is responsible for pick-up/shipping.

Overview:

  • 1962 Corvette, 327/300HP numbers matching block, heads, intake, expansion tank, and differential. Replacement 4-speed trans.
  • Red exterior, white soft top, black interior
  • Also comes with matching red hard top. The market value of this top alone is more than $2,000
  • Runs and drives well
  • To my knowledge, most everything works on the car, including the mechanical-drive tach, speedo, fuel gauge, lights, and blinkers.

Cosmetic condition:

  • Since I’ve owned the car, it has not been hit or in any accidents. Not even a small one.
  • Paint is a nice but older respray, but it is not a perfect show car. It presents well. There are some smaller blemishes. For example, the hood has some spots that are clean and glossy but not perfectly smooth (no breaks or cracks on the hood paint in these spots). There is a small crack behind the front driver’s wheel that has been repaired. As with most of these cars, the lid for the convertible top shows where the rubber from the soft and hard tops sits. The car had these defects when I purchased it 22 years ago and none of them has gotten worse. In summary, the car looks great, as you can see in the photos, and I get tons of compliments, but I want to be clear and up front.
  • Interior was replaced with high-quality new carpets, door panels, and seat covers from Al Knock interiors
  • Soft top was replaced with high quality white top
  • Very nice glass, including new date-coded windshield

Mechanical condition:

  • Engine runs strong. Starts right up. Professionally rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago
  • The frame looks great and there is no significant rust. I can’t guarantee that there is no shallow surface rust here and there but I really didn’t see any when inspecting it. The rear crossmember and suspension mounting points are good and have the original rivets. It is a California car that lived in my garage for the past 22 years, and I don’t remember ever driving it in the rain. The car tracks straight.
  • The car has what appear to be the original “bonding strips” front and rear. You can Google "Bonding Strips C1 Corvette" and see this means the front end was *not* replaced with a one-piece clip, as many were. I know the car had not been hit in the 22 years I owned it, but it appears from these bonding strips and the condition of the frame and fiberglass that it had not been in a major accident before that either.
  • All springs and shocks, and many bushings replaced. There is a suspension squeak at one of the corners, but it is not too loud and does not impact the driving quality of the car
  • Brakes work very well
  • Minor oil leaks typical of an older car. It does not consume any noticeable amount of oil.

Replaced parts (partial list):

  • Rebuilt engine
  • New brake lines and master cylinder
  • New fuel lines
  • New Optima red-top battery
  • Recent door felt (that guides windows)
  • Recent tires (Coker radials, look good and drive far better than bias plies)
  • Tach-drive distributor
  • Driver side window regulator
  • Springs, shocks, and many suspension bushings
  • Seat covers, door panels, carpets
  • Heater box
  • Convertible top and frame
  • T-4 headlights
  • New Pioneer Bluetooth stereo
  • Several new trim and small parts
