Description for Chevrolet C-10 1983
Not just another pickup, this brilliant black 1983 Chevrolet C10 pickup has the moves of a muscle car thanks to one of the cleanest LS1 transplants we've ever seen. It's about time that fuel injection was embraced by the horsepower crowd, and as a result, this one starts and drives even better than it did when it was new. Oh, and it's A LOT faster now thanks to that Corvette heart transplant.
All by itself, the spectacular paint job would make this pickup stand out from the crowd, a glossy, rich black that shows crisp reflections about a mile deep. A cowl-induction hood was added during the build and the rest of the sheetmetal appears to be original, albeit a lot straighter and smoother than the average 34-year-old pickup truck. A custom billet grille that's been finished in black gives the squared-off C10 a sleek look and all the factory-issued trim remains in place, reinstalled after the fresh paint was dry. The bed has a drop-in bed liner so it's still useful and practical as a pickup truck, although it's so nice you'll probably think twice before throwing the heavy stuff in there. A taut tonneau cover provides some protection from the elements and tinted windows add to the sleek performance look. We're really happy to represent this truck because it's one of the nicest we've ever seen.
The best builds always start with high-quality base stock, and this C10 was originally loaded with factory options. Inside, it neatly blends stock and modified components, with the split bench with fold-down center console now wrapped in comfortable black cloth. Performance upgrades are most obvious in the instrument panel, which is now filled with stunning new gauges. Options include ice cold A/C, a tilt steering column, power windows and locks, plus a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo system, so there's no reason not to take this on your next long road trip. The upscale Silverado trim adds handsome door panels with map pockets and carpets on the floors instead of rubber mats, so it feels genuinely luxurious inside. Plenty of sound deadening materials keep it hushed and comfortable inside, although there's no denying the seductive purr of the LS1 up front.
The all-aluminum LS1 engine was borrowed from a C5 Corvette, and the fit between the Silverado's wheel wells is natural. Taking all that weight off the nose actually makes the C10 a decent handler on the street, and the LS1 feels like it could pull forever when you crack open the throttle (which is now mechanical instead of fly-by-wire). All the wiring and plumbing looks OEM, which is the hallmark of the best engine swaps, and thanks to modern electronics, it starts instantly and drives like a new truck. It's backed by a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission, so you can really take advantage of the LS1's efficiency out on the open road. Gorgeous Hedman headers dump into a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and an X-pipe that give it an exotic sound that suggests something other than a garden-variety small block lives under the hood. Four-wheel disc brakes help keep things under control now that it's so much faster than stock and the lowered stance is exactly right. Handsome Vision wheels look fantastic and wear gigantic 245/50/20 Firestone radials.
